Any chance this is not a rooster?

Yellow one (in the back) is Easter Egger. Middle one is Rhodebar. And the rooster is the Phoenix.

I see now quite clearly the difference in the feathers--pointy versus rounded. Is that what everyone looks at to make a determination?
It's definitely a major indicator, also look at comb and wattle development, the cockerels usually have bigger and more red ones, but it can be hard to tell with some breeds. Other indications are more subtle and take a practiced eye. I'm definitely getting a good education on this forum.

I agree you have a cockerel. Here's some ways to spot one in the future...

Large red comb before 4 months of age is male
Pointed hackle and saddle feathers are male, but these don't come in until around 3 months or so.
The color is the clincher here. This color--black breast, red wings, red/gold collar, lots of bright flashy colors, is classic male coloring. You'll never see a female bird with this same coloring.

OK. Sold it on the auction for $5 and bought a replacement for $19. Now not sure which breed is that... They said "game hen" at the auction. Is that a breed? I see "american game" on this site with somewhat similar pictures. Any thoughts on the breed? Thanks!

Game hen, or Game Bird is a classification of breeds, like Orpingtons and Sussex are in the English class. Breeds of this type are Old English, Modern, and several oriental breeds.
That bird looks to be a Black Breasted Red pullet. I'm not sure of her exact breed though, the game-types all look the same to me.
