Hello does anyone know a hatchery that sells sexed silkies? All I can find is straight run. My pet chicken is the only one I can find that sells them sexed. Do any other hatcheries have them sexed? Thanks

I think they are the only ones that try to vent sex Silkies. Being a bantam breed, the vents are even tinier than on standard sized birds, making vent sexing not only difficult, but dangerous.

Ok thanks. Do you know if silkies can be wing sexed?

Nope. Feather sexing takes a very specific combination of genetics. It usually involves crossing different breeds.

Darn. Ok thanks for the information. One more thing have you ever ordered from Ideal Poultry?

I've not ordered directly from Ideal, but my local feed store does. That's where I got my first birds. All healthy, great layers. Only one mis-sexed bird out of 12.
My only complaint is that they insist on calling their Easter Eggers, Ameraucana.

We got 6 pekins and 9 production red chicks from Ideal Poultry and all of them had bumble foot. I was wondering if this happened to any one else

Bumblefoot when you first got them?
