Any Home Bakers Here?

Well, the quiche was yummy even if not so pretty. Here's a pic.

Thankfully, I had a jar of freeze dried cream on the shelf. When I was working on my hot cocoa recipe, I bought a dozen different powdered milks, and the heavy cream to figure out best taste. The heavy cream made it too rich, if there is such a thing, so it's just been setting on the shelf. None the less, it worked. I reconstituted it with 1 C water and half cup of powder.

Folks, I'm looking for advice. I just had an interesting conversation with one of DWs co-workers. She bakes cakes and other stuff for direct sale on the side. We've given her a few dozen of our eggs just because we had extra. She pays $0.99 at wally world for eggs but just offered $2.50/doz with a commitment of at least a dozen per week for our eggs.

My eggs sell for $5.00/doz if I meet you or $4.50 if you pickup. Breaking into the market is a hard thing to do. I've been offering those who buy organic eggs from wally world a free dozen if they bring me the carton, because mine are so much better. Still slow going.

After talking with this lady, I'm thinking there are a lot of home bakers in my area who sell direct or at farmers markets. Trying to figure out how to find them. I'm thinking offer them a few dozen eggs for free to get them away from wally world...

All your thoughts and suggestions are welcome... Getting about a thousand eggs per month right now. That includes chicken, duck and turkey eggs. Funnily enough, the home baker who we've been giving eggs to doesn't want duck as they "complicate" her recipes. Most bakers prefer duck?!?

I worked in Radio had my own show. Then stayed home to raise a family. Later I had an opportunity to work in a LARGE Advertising Agency. Later I purchased the Agency and later taught College Marketing Advertising Classes for 33 years.

When I stayed home to raise a family....I opened an old Fashioned County Store and took bread and cookie orders. Prefer teaching
and baking JUST for my friends and family.
Nice life story you have there!

$2.50 a dozen is too low. Backyard eggs are much better than the 99cent a dozen eggs.

I agree, but I've been feeding them back to the girls to get rid of them... I have over 500 in the pantry right now. I know it will take time to build my customer base. And I didn't want to start until I had a good supply. Well, perfect storm. Now I have supply and no customers... If home bakers can off load the extras at that price it's better than nothing or feeding to the girls.

As long as they don’t spread the news, making others think they can get the lower price, you’re better off getting $2.50

When I had more that I could use or sell, I dehydrated them and stored the powder in vacuum seal bags. The powder can be used in baking and keeps for years.

I understand wanting to sell the eggs but you don't want to setup a constant loss on them
