Any Home Bakers Here?

Herman is just an Amish Friendship Starter - very similar to Sour Dough Starter, just a lot sweeter - and does not call for vanilla pudding mix. (the Amish Friendship recipes that I have all call for vanilla pudding mix, what's up with that?) I have recipes for Herman pancakes, coffee cake, quick bread (Friendship Bread), muffins, etc. There was a series of recipes published in a local newspaper eons ago and I have photocopies of it in my recipe box. I think it was from the 1970s, but I am not sure. I am going to have to look it up when I get home tonight!
The potato flakes are used to collect the proper yeast from the air to make/support a starter. The recipe for making a sour dough starter from wild yeast calls for leaving potato water on the counter for a couple of days until it starts to ferment. If it doesn't turn pink it is good to use - or something like that.
I prefer to use the start I got from @ronott1 .
Thanks wyoDreamer for the info. Regards, Aria

My starter is alive and healthy got it from Ron at least a year ago it lives in the refrigerator I have two jars that it goes back and forth in, comes out every now and then
to warm up get fed a few days make pancakes and bread go back to the fridge

Hello,

I need some baking advice. Me and my grandmother are trying to find recipes that will be good for my grandpa after open heart surgery. The biggest thing is it needs to be little or no sodium, and as little canned or pre prepared food as possible also.

Anyone have any recipe ideas?

Jared

So we have Herman cake that's a bread.
And we have Boston cream pie that's a cake.

It's because of stuff like this that I walk around confused all the time. :lau
That is a good kwestian. How does “qu” = “kw”? How does “ph” = “f” and “v”? How ... :he Yeah, we are very confusing.
Here’s one! How does sign language have different languages? :th I was learning sign language from a deaf friend. When I moved away, I went to the library (this was in the days before internet :old), and discovered it was American Sign Language. I pretty much gave up. Duckling knows about thirty words (a mistake on my part. She can get me to change my mind if she signs what she wants), but I cannot remember too much more.
