Any Home Bakers Here?

Debby, I spent about six weeks in a German hotel before DW and kids arrived. I made friends with the Chef and would hang out in the kitchen with him. Mostly on weekends and the like... After a couple weeks he invited me to family dinner on Wednesday (the only day the restaurant is closed). So I suggested that since he fed me all week long, I should feed him and family on Wednesday. So every Wednesday it was something Not German. But it was a blast.

What part of Germany were you in Bob? I went to Munich for 2 weeks several years ago and loved every minute of it!

Bet you learned a lot of great recipes from the Chef, how nice to get some one-on-one time like that :)

Share yours too DMC, I'd like to see it!
Here it is. I’m sure Ron’s will put mine to shame:lol:

I was in the region called the Eifel. I lived in Spangdahlem and the hotel was is dudledorf. Zum Alten brauhouse is the place I stayed. They've given it a face lift, but last time I was there I was living in Saudi... Sooooo 94/95ish. While we lived there (3 years) we tried to go over at least one Wednesday a month. The chef was always following me around with a notebook. My biggest problem with German recipes is finding ingredients. I never translated. If the recipe called for X I went to the local store and bought it. Now days I use German Deli.com a lot to find what the recipe calls for and read in English what the ingredients are, then go find a similar product on the shelves here. And in a worst case scenario, I'll just order it from the german deli.
