I had to move my sd starter tonight. The old container got a little funky. It happens occasionally.
I poured off the hooch, put the starter in a jar, and gave it flour. Then I pulled out some “dough”, and added it to a jar with apple syrup in it. It was a jar of pie filling I’d used.
The other jar was given water of course.
I’m making sd apple pancakes in the morning.
Sounds good!

The hooch can be stirred in. It keeps the starter sour. You add a bit more flour than water to keep the hydration level of the start where it should be.

Not pink. Just not good. It still smells fine, and is white. :D If I get sick, I’ll let you know. Duckling won’t eat the apples, so I can be the guinea pig.
It is fine unless it is pink

Hello,

FUNNY story. I baked bread, as I said I would, and it took me an hour to make. However, the bread never rose. I was disappointed. I decided an hour later to clean up. While cleaning, I grabbed a dirty cup to wash, and there was the yeast I was SUPPOSED to put in.

I laughed pretty hard and said out loud, "THERES your problem, Jared!"

Jared.

Good you have a sense of humor! I would not have been happy.

I've done that and I was going to trash the dough because it was not rising, when I saw the yeast sitting there. Luckily I caught it before baking, so I just kneaded the yeast into the dough with a touch of warm water and flour. I put it in a warm oven to rise and the bread turned out fine. An hour AFTER supper of course, but it was really good as dessert.
