Any Home Bakers Here?

hello,

So, two things. First off, I made Christmas cookies. Here's a picture of them.

Every year for 10 years, we have been trying to successfully make Christmas cookies in the right shapes. Whenever we cook them, they always lose their shape. After 10 years, I finally succeeded. They held their shape, and they are the best Christmas cookies I ever made.

Second, for Christmas dinner I am planning on taking down another goose, and then having a Christmas goose and figgy pudding.

If I'm unable to take down a goose, I'm going to get a turkey from the store.

I think we have the same Angel cutter!

@penny1960 Can you post the secret to cutouts that hold their shape?
I’ve heard the trick is to refrigerate the cutout cookies before baking them.

@Auroradream26, if you ever do try goose, and it does not have to be your boys, keep in mind that goose has a much higher fat content than duck or chicken. You have to cook it so the fat drains out. I did that for Thanksgiving.

Here is the goose recipe I used recently. It is the best goose recipe in my opinion.

It takes four days, but it is well worth it.

Jared

Thanks for that! Someday, we'll try it :)

What did you do differently that they held their shape?
My husband likes tools too for Christmas. But he has to write down exactly what he wants or I'll get the wrong thing :idunno
My guys like Snap On tools. It’s dangerous having a dealer in town.

My recipe doesn’t call for chilling. If I roll the dough too thick then they spread out.

My husband could (but didn’t) fix the bike, the pickup or the semi. I bought good tools, and if I didn’t know something, I’d call his mechanic buddy. :D
Now those tools are just sitting in the garage, and I buy good tools for me! :bun I prefer or DeWalt or Craftsman.

... my bad. I must confess that I have begun a Craftsman toolset for Duckling.

BC, I think that's a great idea to teach Duckling how to fix things and getting her own tools. I wish I knew more about how things work but my dad never saw the point in teaching a female how to work on stuff. He was old fashioned about that sort of thing.

Duckling will be glad to know how to take care of herself and her belongings in the long run!

My father taught us to be ladies, but knew that the world was changing. We can change a tire, check our oil (not pump our own gas), fix a toilet, build a doghouse out of a barrel, and change a lightbulb. Everything else I’ve learned because I found myself alone.
I am trying to teach Duckling how to survive the awful world she is in.

It is a lot of fun!
Ron, Just took the Sourdough Bread out of oven. Looks GREAT.
Looking forward to the taste. Needs to cool. I did follow your
instructions. Used Jim Lahey's No Kneads recipe for Overnight rise
and used 3/4 cup of my sourdough starter. AND I did bake it in
my large antique tin. Weighed the dough...it was 2 pounds. I came to the top of the tin and I slashed it across the top.
