@ronott1, me and my mother are starting the sourdough starter. We have one quick question. After it started, about how long will it take for it to be established and ready to use for sourdough bread?
It will take at most two weeks. You should see bubbles quickly.

Keep us posted on how it does!

For the first couple of weeks, make recipes that have yeast in them.

Do not add yeast to the starter though. That will mess it up. Only add yeast to what you are making.

And always remember to save enough starter to replenish what you have.

It's already bubbling. One last question. Do you store it in the refrigerator?

For the fist three days, Replenish it each evening and morning. Keep it covered with a dish cloth for that time.

After three days, use a jar like we posted. The reason for using jars like that or with loose seals is to keep the container from breaking from the pressure.

I try to use the starter at least once a week. I take it out of the fridge and add half a cup of flour and a bit of water if it is looking too thick. After it bubbles, I make either a sponge(recipe will have instructions) or use it right away for things like pancakes, bagels and other recipes that do not require a sponge.

I am very happy that the starter is already bubbling! You will be able to make bread very soon
