Please, there is no way to make a perfect grilled cheese without using real cheese! We use white cheddar (because orange cheese is just so wrong, nothing natural about that). It melts quite well. I'm also a fan of garlic powder on the cheese. DW is too but only when she make HER sandwich with Jarlsberg.

OK here is my second shot at making bread. This one has more holes and is half whole wheat. I made 2 loaves figuring it is easier to freeze one if not eaten soon but forgot that this recipe only had 3 cups of flour, not 5 like the last one.

Looks good Penny!

My bread came out a little flatter than I had hoped, do people think maybe I let it rise too much beforehand or perhaps that is the nature of this recipe? I ASSUME I could also bake it in a glass or metal bread pan??
Yes, you can bake it in another vessel. I find there are more uses if the
bread is baked in a Bread Pan. That is a matter of choice. If you are NEW
baking bread....that is a fine loaf. You need to keep baking and you WILL
find out what works for you. I have been making bread for many years...
and I learn something...every time I bake a loaf. Aria

To Add, I used a two loaf version to make this:

It is the King Arthur Extra Tangy sourdough bread recipe
That is the first one I made.

You can get one that makes a nice french loaf for not too much money
I can get any number of them for free! We have 2 glass pans and at least 4 metal ones. They are about 4"x8". I'd have to figure out how much dough to put in each pan so I don't make rectangular muffins.

ETA Oops, just noticed you said French loaf!
