Question for you all...where are you getting your pure vanilla extract?

I'm about to the end of my 32oz bottle and am in sticker shock at the prices I'm seeing for anything close to what I have.

Years ago a relative brought me some vanilla back from Mexico and I liked it. But looking at the reviews on Amazon, they currently are not good (some said it tasted like furniture polish).



I've seen that and thought of it, but I'm going to need more extract before I can make my own. Guess I should have started a few months ago!

I'll have to dig some more and maybe get some of my own perking in the meantime.
 
Here the whole carcass must be presented for a tooth removal. As long as you didn't cut holes in the hide, they can deal with the rest. Even small holes can be stitched back together.

It is standard procedure to clean the skull and bleach it with hydrogen peroxide. It is not recommended to boil the skull as it can cause the teeth to crack. Never use bleach on bones.

i’d say it was decent size. Maybe a little small. 250 to 300 pounds.
 
I think I'll just get a small bottle for now and try out Sally's method to make my own.

Have you made any vanilla extract like she has Bob?
I have not. I have made vanilla vodka. Interesting thing with that is I'm still using the same bean for the 3rd batch. $8 1.75l bottle of vodka and 1 Madagascar bean. So I suspect you could likely re-use the beans. It's hard for me to wait a year for anything though... But I'm seriously contemplating getting a couple half gallon jars and just doing it. By the time I get around to needing it, it would likely be full strength.
 
I've never eaten an apple dumpling before. Can you share the recipe please :)
I have no recipe.

Roll out pie dough big enough to completely cover the apple.

Place pie dough in a pie pan or on a tray depending on how many you are making.

Peel and core one apple. Place apple in center of pie dough.

Sprinkle cinnamon in apple core.

If not concerned about sugar content. fill core with brown sugar and top with a small pat of butter.

If concerned about sugar content (me), fill core with sucralose with a small pat of butter on top.

Sprinkle top and outside of apple with cinnamon.

Fold pie dough up to completely cover the apple and seal edges with water.

Bake at 375°F for one hour.

Serve hot in a bowl with milk or ice cream.

When I bake a pie, I use the extra pie dough for an apple dumpling. It will make enough for one apple dumpling. I add it to the oven with the pie that has already started cooking and take them both out at the same time.
