Any Home Bakers Here?

Baking my pumpkins tonight, I think I should had some left over to make NorthFLchick's pumpkin bread! Trying a new kind of pie pumpkin this year and who knows, maybe this will be the first year I'll like pumpkin pie. Lol

I hope you all have fun no matter what you do!

Hi Alice28, can you remember the name of the pumpkin seed for your pie pumpkins? Our local places didn't have any seed that we could find and I would really like to try growing some next year. If you can recall the name, maybe I could order it from a seed company. We did grow a few of the bigger ones (mostly just to see if we could) but they weren't very tasty when we tried cooking them.

I can not for the life of me remember the name. I bought it from an organic farm in the area at halloween time. They said it was great for pie, but it wasn't the normal pie pumpkin. There are sugar pies, which are the most used pie pumpkin. You should try growing those. You don't want big ones for pie.

I just went through every post the farm had online! They had one picture and the pumpkin I bought and the sign with its name was almost out of view, but I'm pretty sure it said "winter luxury pie". Look up winter luxury pie pumpkin. It smelled really good when I was baking it and was much meatier then the sugar pies I've used in the past. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Next year I want to plant and grow are own pumpkins.

Found it using Winter Luxury Pie Pumpkin. Looks like there are a few places where I can get some seed for plating next year. Thanks Alice28!

(And you're right...we learned the hard way, don't want to use the big ones for pies. Ours wasn't even good just baked for eating, very watery and no taste.)

Yay! Ok buy that one! I just put mine in the food processor and there is so much meat in it the food processor is FULL! Way more then I've gotten from the pie pumpkins!

Do out know or does anyone know how much pumpkin is in one can? Your bread recipe says one can pure pack pumpkin, but I want to use actual pumpkin. Do you think like two cups?

Why, yes, yes I do, lol. I just made a pumpkin pie (from canned) and stuck it in the oven. There are 15 oz. in a can (that's what I use in the pumpkin bread). There are 16 oz. in 2 cups so definitely be good with 2 or just slightly less.

Talk about timing!

Thanks! I've never bought canned pumpkin so wasn't sure. Tomorrow or Friday I'll make the bread
