Pimento Cheese Biscuits…..great idea, never would have thought of that. I have your recipe saved, gotta try it next time I crave the pimento cheese..

Finally brave enough to try sourdough! I just made the start, so in a about a week will make my first loaf. Wish me luck! This weekend I think I will attempt sourdough pancakes if all goes well. I know I've said it before, but sourdough has always intimidated me, but I love it and have always wanted to make it, so here goes nothing!

Sourdough takes time to be able to "punch up" bread if you start it from brand new. It will still take a couple of weeks of you get a start from someone.

For the first couple of times, use recipes that have a bit of bakers yeast in them.

Good to know. The recipie I have says to use a little yeast to for that reason and that I should be able to make it in a week. I'll try one loaf or saurdough pancakes in a week then in two weeks make another loaf. Kind of freaks me out cooking with something left out that long, but that's the whole point! Haha

When I started mine, I had to try three times to get it going correctly. I had to use plain yogurt because I did not have access to un pasteurized milk. It is by far an amazing way to make bread and etc.

Hmm, my start used water, not milk. I would imagine milk would make it a lot more sour! Another one I looked at also called for water. Well, if this doesn't turn out how I like, I will be asking or instructions on your start.

All it takes to get a starter is a self addressed stamped envelope sent to the friends of Carl:

Sourdough is a combination of lacto bacillus from milk and natural yeast. If started using water and bakers yeast, it is a yeast culture and not a sourdough starter. Once the lacto bacillus is in the starter, it will kill off all yeast but one that is able to live with the lacto bacillus.

It is amazing and is a wild yeast--not commercial. I love it!

You are fine then. That was a starter and it has lacto bacillus in it. It will take a couple of weeks of regular use but in time you will be able to make bread without adding yeast.
