Any Home Bakers Here?

I like baking, but I've not tried baking bread. Well I'd love to try..

Most on this thread do it all by hand, I have a bread machine and love it. If you have never explored the site, King Arthur Flour site has a lot of recipes and step by step photos and hints to help you learn.

Good job, looks great. I have eaten it as sandwich with bread or dip on crackers…never thought about toast.
Have you ever had a grilled pimento cheese sandwich? Really good, just butter skillet and brown it to warm the filling.

My DH does all the shopping, so I would never know where to find anything….

Pimentos are a great addition to a lot of casseroles, you should try adding. We add them to squash casserole, tuna casserole, and to fried crab cakes. The flavor is mild and the red adds pizazz.

No, never had a grilled one. I've put it on ham sandwiches, but I don't eat many sandwiches, usually just get one piece of bread, spread it and fold it over. I can't eat much as a general rule. I didn't have any crackers when I made it and the bread was frozen so I put it in the toaster and since it started to actually toast, I just let it be toast, lol. Later in the day, I got some of the big Wheat Thins and tried it on them. YUM-O! Omgosh, it's so bad for me, cheese and high fat, good grief, I'm in trouble now. This makes way more than the little tub of pimento cheese I usually buy, LOL! Thanks again, sunflour.

Next time divide the recipe…Use the 4 oz jar of pimentos, a little heavy on the pimento doesn't hurt.

Glad you liked it. I love wheat thins or sociables with it.

Just never occurred to me to divide it, but then, this was a crazy last three days so I was a tad "dain bramaged". And DH won't help me eat it, either, because he doesn't like it. My best friend doesn't either, but her husband does. Sadly, he's in Kentucky and I can't give him a tub, lol.

Here's the best Pimento Cheese recipe I've tried.

1 lb box Velveeta cheese
1 jar pimento
2 tablespoons salad dressing (I use Miracle Whip and don't really measure)
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons vinegar

DIRECTIONS

Grind or mash Velveeta and pimento. Add other ingredients and mix well.
Serve with crackers or as my family does-- spread on toasted homemade bread with sliced garden tomatoes.

I was left with more of the pimento cheese than I ought to eat and was too tempted so researched if I could freeze it. Nope, not appetizing after the defrost, I found out, but someone online who tried to freeze some she'd gotten on sale and didn't like the result came up with these Pimento Cheese Biscuits. I tried them. Wow, they're good! Even my pimento-cheese-ambivalent husband likes them. So, here is the recipe.

I admit, I didn't use all that butter due to the cost of it so used maybe 3/4 of a stick and made up the diff with vegetable shortening. After all, the pimento cheese if full of mayo, which you can use to make biscuits anyway.

Pimento Cheese Biscuits
Ingredients:
3 Cups Flour
4 tsp baking powder
1 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
3/4 Cup Butter or margarine
1 Cup Palmetto Cheese Original or Jalapeno (or our own homemade, of course)
1 Cup Milk
In a mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Mix dry ingredients together. Cut cold butter into cubes and add to the dry mixture. Using a fork or a pastry blender cut the butter into dry mixture until resembles coarse crumbs. Add Palmetto Cheese and milk and blend until just mixed. Knead dough with your hands to mix in the remaining flour in the bowl.
Dough should be smooth and blended well.
Place dough onto floured surface and roll out to 3/4 inch thick. Cut dough with a biscuit cutter or another semi sharp round object such as a measuring cup or plastic drinking cup. Yield is approximately 12 biscuits depending on your cutter. Bake at 450F until golden brown or about 10-12 minutes.
Brush with melted butter and serve.
Works well frozen. Place raw, cut dough circles onto a cookie sheet. Place cookie sheet in the freezer until dough discs are hardened. Place dough discs into a storage bag and freeze until needed.
