Any Home Bakers Here?

Hi there! I am new to the thread but saw the yummy looking seeded rolls someone posted. I can't seem to find the recipe in the previous posts. Does anyone know where I can find it? Thanks!

Those are from the Seeded Hamburger Bun recipe, posted 09-09-15, post #2149. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll try a copy/paste.

Welcome to the thread!

Hi, everyone! I'm new to this thread but have been on BYC sine 2010. This thread always makes me hungry! I made hermit cookies today, with apples, raisins, and pecans. A word to the wise - don't make small cookies, because they are too easy to eat!

Your cookies look really good. Care to share the recipe with us?

Thanks for joining us here!

This is an old family recipe from my husband's aunt.

Apple Hermits

1 cup raisins
1 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups brown sugar (firmly packed)
1/4 cup molasses
3 eggs
3 1/4 cups flour
1/2 tspn salt
1 tspn baking soda
1 tspn cinnamon
1/2 tspn nutmeg
1/2 tspn cloves
3/4 cup nuts (I use pecans because DH is allergic to walnuts)
1 cup chopped apple

Cream shortening with brown sugar. Add molasses, then eggs one at a time. Add dry ingredients, then fold in fruits and nuts.

Drop on cookie sheet, 350 degrees for 15 minutes.

Just fyi, I use the Splenda brown sugar and it doesn't change a thing. Also, some folks don't like cloves, and you can just leave 'em out.

Enjoy!

What about molasses is there a good brand i have some but i hate the taste!! Its not syrup so could you use something else or did i just buy a bad brand?

There are different types and different brands. Black Strap molasses has a very dark color and is very strong. I have braer rabbit molasses and it is good.

If the flavor of molasses puts you off, a substitute would be dark corn syrup(It is a light corn syrup, not high fructose)

I've used different types of molasses and the cookies seem to taste the same. Molasses right out of the jar can taste kind of nasty, but once you add it to everything else, it's yummy. The smell of these cookies baking brings up visions of sugarplums......:p

I use it in gingerbread man recipe i found i could still taste it for some reason. I love ginger bread men it ruined them for me lol i might need just to get a new recipe.
