@NorthFLChick I am so pleased to hear that the French bread recipe is working well for you! It really does make the process of baking bread easy as pie!

Speaking of pie, I know I promised a bourbon apple bread pudding but I had a huge craving for salted caramel in/on something. And I still had apples. So I made some salted caramel apple pie bars, the recipe I found on Sally's Baking Addiction. DH says the recipe is a keeper! They are excellent! Hope everyone has had a nice weekend!

@3goodeggs I've tried a few mug cake recipes in the past but was always a bit disappointed in them. Since reading your post I've been looking online for some that DS could make up easily in the dorm, a lot of the ones I found call for eggs and other ingredients.

BUT, here's a link to Duncan Hines and their microwave cake recipe. It looks very doable and had suggestions for a lot of variations. It's 2 cake mixes combined in a gallon zip baggie. When he wants to make a mug cake, he can just use 3 Tab. of cake mix and stir in 2 Tab. of water. Nuke and eat. Easy!

Thank you @sunflour !
I think I can get several of these put together in some nice containers and a new mug. He'd love that! I find it is easier having my only child away from home when I can think of things to send him.
He has some fantastic room mates and good friends on his dorm floor, so I think I can send mug mixes every package and they won't go to waste -they are on the third floor so they won't go to waist either!

I have a cake in the oven from a new recipe. It's supposed to be a dense, fudgy chocolate. I'll let you know how it turns out later.

Ok, cake review. It was ok. Not bad but not our favorite. It was sort of dry and not really fudgy. I had some trouble with it sticking to the pan too (I think that's where the chocolate chips melted in the cake batter). It was very dense and chocolaty but almost too much so (I couldn't finish a small piece). Here's a link to the King Arthur recipe and their picture of it:

The best chocolate cake I've ever made is the recipe on the Hershey's cocoa can. I use the recipe for their chocolate frosting too but make just a 1/2 recipe for icing the sides. I make coconut buttercream frosting for the middle layer and on top. I don't think I've posted those recipes or a picture of the cake but will the next time I make one.

Thanks for the review!
