I'm surprised no-one suggested Chipotle for their chili - I love the smoky taste that it adds.

I grew up on bland chili - browned burger and onion; add a can of tomato juice, a can of kidney beans, 2 tablespoons of chili powder and 1 tbls of sugar. I have jazzed it up by using 2 cans of V-8, a can of chili beans w/ sauce, 2 cans of kidney beans, 2 tbls of chili powder, 1 tbls of sugar and 1/2 tbls of chipotle. Still pretty basic, but a lot more flavor than what I grew up on.

DH has a 5-alarm Grilled Chili recipe that is really good, but he makes it too hot for me. You start out by grilling a round steak, a ham steak, 1 pound of tomatoes, and the onion. Dice it all up and put it in the pot, then start adding the seasonings... He makes it, so I am not sure what all goes in it but it is so good. I won a chili contest at work with it. :)

Had to look up the Chipotle, my this thread is so educational :)

I don't like the 5-alarm hotties. But your other recipe using V-8 is an interesting idea.

@ronott1 I don't think we can get dried red beans here, but pintos are easy to find.

Hmmm. looks like a lot of chili tries coming soon.

I think chili recipes are sort of like any other soup recipe...the basics are pretty much the same but everyone adds their own flair to it.

Hi @Barred Rock Boy !

Ok in a debate with my mother she thinks it takes thirty pound turkey and a 15 pound ham to feed six adults (this year will be seven adults), two teens (one boy one girl neither eat much that i have ever seen) and a two year old. I think she crazy i say that a 9 pound ham and a 12 pound turkey with all the sides is more then enough. What do yall think?

Lol execpt i am the one cooking (cant travel pregnant) and they all live two hours away lol i cant imagine them all wanting to bring ice chests lmao

If it's at your house, just get what you think best. I agree, with all the sides you should have more then enough. We are having 8 people max and just having 1 chicken and 1 ham, then all the sides.

DH & I used to sell Ghost Peppers in our store and had some of the funniest customers for those. The ones that used to worry me were the customers that would buy them for their bosses, as a surprise. Hope there was no loss of employment due to our peppers! Then there was the little 8-year old girl that could eat them like candy. Wow!

You know I would have been one of Those customers....I like it HOT!!!.....Phil
