Any Home Bakers Here?

Good morning

I think I'll take half of it and warm it up for dinner tonight and use the rest for soup. We still have some chili and ham & potato soup on hand so something "solid" might be a nice change.

What are you up to today @sunflour ?

Hi Debby, you still awake

. Home again, but still "working" :)

Congratulations - my what a deal. Never found the used/open box section - is that the window that opens up when you select and item showing places with a lower price?
Or a Secret Section?

Please update us when you get it going.
When you click on an item for sale, look at the bottom of the short description. If it is available, you will see used and or refurbished.

Look at the description and it will have the condition. You can tell from it and if it says Amazon Fulfillment if is an open box or not.

That is what this one was.

I will definitely report on the grain mill!

Getting a new hot plate installed this morning! Lucky we are as it turns out when a different electrician installed our last replacement he didn't read the power sticker and we have been running a 6600 stovetop on 3600 wiring. Lucky we didn't burn the house down! I'm a bit of a one pot cook which turns out to be a good thing as we could have melted the wiring under the cupboard if I was using multiple elements with that wiring.

So glad you didn't have a bad event with that.

Wow!

Getting the voltage wrong can cause a lot of problems.

Enjoy the hot plate.

Yeah I'm counting my lucky stars I can tell you! Only reason we even found out was a friend bought this new one for his caravan park holiday house and then couldn't use it because they couldn't run the heavier wiring there. So he gave it to us. It's fancier than what we had so we decided to replace the other one but wouldn't have otherwise as it still works, is just a bit worn looking (will be using ceramic cleaner on this new one!) When the electrician came round to see what was needed to install it he pointed out the sticker on the old one yikes! The friend is getting a thank you gift that's for sure!

Does anyone triple rise their bread? This last loaf that I stuffed up then fixed ended up with an extra rise in the middle because of my adding the extra water half way. It's got a really nice soft texture to it and I'm wondering if that's extra rise that did the trick.

No, don't believe I've ever done that. You could try to re-create what you did before to see if your bread turns out that way again.

Never heard of 3 rises, so had to surf ....there are a lot of recipes out there that call for 3 rises.

But this is a quote off KA Bread's discussions:
Martha Rose Shulman, in her book Great Breads, suggests that if you have the time, it's always good to give the dough an extra rise in the bowl. I always do, even with my sourdough, as it seems to give the bread an extra lift, letting it rise higher than it would without that extra rise in the bowl.

It seems you have discovered a great tip there.
