Any Home Bakers Here?

I don't really use any of my gadgets much, but it is mainly (only?) for mincing meat. I was going to give making a sausages a go, it comes with an attachment to feed the mince into sausage skin. I found a place where you can buy the skins but it was shut when I went up there and I haven't remembered to go past again.

My kenwood is very old, I bought it secondhand a long time ago. It came with the attachments, but I think I sold the old mincer (I was going to sell the Kenwood as well, but didn't). I was lucky enough to find a new one (and also a new pasta roller) at the op shop. You may be able to pick up a vintage kenwood with all the "stuff" for a cheap price, if you've got room to store it.

We used to have a really old one but never tried to use it and gave it away - but read later that some folks use them to grind bone for calcium for chickens and for gardens?

Our local groceries will grind meat - but never have tried getting them to do that.

I prefer patty sausage. Doubt it's still used anymore - but the "skins" for link sausage used to be intestines

or at least that's what I was told.

My brother makes a lot of sausages and he gets the "intestines" for the skins. I don't know if he gets them from the local butcher shop or online but they are available.

I knew it was true.

My brother is really into all sorts of "strange" foods. He spent a lot of time in Europe and loves to make things like blood pudding, head cheese, haggis, etc. He also gets into preparing foods from history (like medieval or American revolutionary times). Eating at his house is always an adventure (not one I always partake in but still, an adventure, lol).

Next time you have to eat there, fake a cold and take a big bog of tissues to pretend to eat but spit or just spoon it into the tissues and discard

Folks here used to cook and actually eat tripe and chitlins.....DH still loves Pork Skins, but never gets those...

Thankfully, he's also pretty much memorized Julia Childs recipes and those are delicious!

I like the stringy roasts that fall apart - you can make sandwiches if any is left over

I don't have a grinder - but sounds like a good investment -

ditto on the grinder. Have thought about getting one but never thought I would use it enough to make it worth buying one.

What else do you use the mincer for?
Yes!

My grinder is powered by my kitchenaid grinder. It is from Chiefs Choice.

You would have liked the pot roast cooked in the clay baker.

Ready for oven:

Cooked!

DH just got ours in the oven, so will be joining in on the roast eating in a few hours :)

That looks delicious.

I had thought about getting a grinder for my KA - have really enjoyed the shredder/dicer/slicer attachment and the pasta attachments. Just now sure we'll get enough use from the grinder.
The skins can be natural (intestine) or synthetic. I can't remember what the synthetic consists of.
Likely commercial sausage now has synthetic casings. Wonder what those are made of......no, I really don't want to know.

I looked it up, it's not gross (or I wouldn't still be wanting to make sausages one day)
