Any Home Bakers Here?

Hey you guys. Sorry to crash in here looking for advice, but its birthday time again & I scrambling for help. I'm looking for a frosting recipe for some bundt cakes. I want to add food dye to it in the hope of making really bright, bold colored frosting. It needs to be thin enough to pour over the cakes, but solid enough to not pour off, or be too translucent like a glaze. What would you guys recommend? A Royal icing? A cream cheese frosting? Thickening up a normal glaze? Any advice or tips you guys have would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Use gel coloring for your color. If you are making it red, get Tasteless Red.

I would make a thick glaze if you want to pour it. Powdered sugar, a little butter (or butter flavored Crisco since it doesn't really get that soft at room temp), and a bit of milk. Add the milk a little at time until you get the consistency you are looking for.

I mainly use one and it can be used allot of ways
1/2 c melted butter
2 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp Vanilla
1/8 cup or less of milk
use less for thicker frosting

Thanks! I need a red, a white, a black

& a yellow. I considered adding cocoa to the black one to darken down the base & hopefully not have to use as much black coloring... I have no idea if that would work.

Black is a hard one. I always bought black frosting when I needed it.

I think you can only get real black with black ( a dye from squid ink ) and it doesn't taste good ) . You can get brown mixing colors...IMO go with brown chocolate and don't try for black. Or try purple with some brown and see if that's dark enough.

They were doing a special burger at KFC which came with a black bun. I asked the lady about it, how they got the colour..... I can't remember what she told me they used, but I do remember her telling me that they'd done it in Japan and used the squid ink over there, but they didn't use the squid ink here because it gives a slightly fishy taste that we probably wouldn't like.

EDIT: looked it up, some sort of vegetable dye
