Any Home Bakers Here?

Anyone ever make stollen? My son is making some tonight for a school project. Normally, I can't stand any kind of bread or pastry with fruit in it but this is looking like it might actualy be good lol

Stollen is WONDERFUL! It is not a very sweet bread. So if you want it sweeter.... add a bit of honey atop it. Mmmmmmm! German pastries are my favs! They have just enough sweet but not sickeninly sweet like american desserts are. Usually the cake itself in german pastries is not sweet at all... it is the fillings that give it the sweetness. But stollen is different in that way cause it doesnt have a fillin per se. Just the fruit in the bread. But yum! Slice off a piece when it comes out the oven and you may have hide it. Hahahaha.

I really miss having the backerei just down the street as well as the fleischerei. When I would walk to work early in the morning he had a cow pulling a cart with chickens and a half dozen pigs tied off to the cart. They walked in about 4:30AM. No question how fresh your meat was. I had a friend order milk for dinner one night and you could tell the waitress wasn't happy, but a half hour later he got warm milk.

Amazing!

The stollen turned out great! We made 4 loaves and if course, the dogs managed to get one off the counter. I'm blaming the 14 year old, obnoxious terrier mix who seems to have forgotten rules in his old age :/ Thankfully, they didn't manage to eat much of it (raisins). We cut up 1 1/2 loaves for samples for DS to take in for his class tomorrow. The other two loaves we get to eat :)
