Any Home Bakers Here?

i have been thinking about it.
the deer i am using is from last years season (its about a year old now so i want to use it up) am planning to maybe go white tail hunting this weekend. but i got some bear meat left i would like to try corning it. (its like a mix between beef and pork, i think its really good)

do you have a recipe for corned venison? that you would mind sharing? i would love to hear how you make yours.

Yes I do. Give me a second to find it. It's so nice to have another Hunter here! I'm a duck and Goose Hunter myself.

Okay, my internet's acting up for some weird reason. I can't seem to access the recipe. I believe it's already in the recipe index on this thread. It's on allrecipes.com and it's simply named corned venison.

Is this the recipe you're looking for Jared?

Bear meat? That's something I've never tried. Did you get the bear hunting?
i shot my first bear last spring (2019) it was a 2-3 year old male, weighed about 250 lbs live we guessed, (this was told to us by the rancher whose land we shot it on) i really only wanted the meat to try. but to be honest was just as good as the deer, moose and elk i have eaten. very mild tasting.

but i made a ham out of the back leg which turned out awesome, had a friend come over and say "wow that pork smells really good" told them was bear meat. well the look the gave was pretty funny.

That's it. Thank you. It turns out my Internet bill was not paid. I just got it fixed.

I've had bear only once before. It was jerky. I've never shot a bear.

Still, it was delicious.

I use a snap lock container and put a brown sugar bear into it. The bear and the air tight container keep the brown sugar fresh

Thanks everyone, for the tip about the brown sugar savers! I just ordered a set of two round ones with roosters on them. They sound very useful, and no more hard brown sugar! :yesss:

I have a question, and since we’re talking about hunting, I am asking in this thread.
Is it possible for everyone to become vegetarian? The dairy farmers are already losing their generations old farms because of non dairy options. Now people want to do without meat. Along with the impact on the farmers, how can we live on vegetables when California is burning up, and climate change is making everything too dry, too wet, too cold or too hot? Sometimes all of the above in one week!
So I am honestly asking, can we rely on vegetables? As far as “growing” animals, cows, pigs and chickens can survive on grass, and whatever we throw in their pen (they aren’t vegetarian, and we know it!).

I like meat. I could not be a vegetarian unless that was all the food there was.

That's why I grow as much as I can, can and eat seasonally. And freeze/dehydrate. One day I hope to have a freeze dryer too.
