@ronott1 - Thank you so much! :D

I've got a few ideas on how to decorate them. Some of the family have kids, so it will probably be tiny snowmen cookies for the kids, and a blue/white theme of full size cookies for adults. I also saw videos of a "christmas tree" cake I'd like to try for just us.
How fun!

Keep an eye out for the new mine contests coming out. I have a feeling that there will be some food decorating contests in the mix

Well my bread isn’t very pretty. I was afraid to over handle it when it fell. So quickly formed two smaller loaves. But here it is. View attachment 1967088ETA: the hole is because I stuck a thermometer in it. :D Just tasted it. The 30 hours of rising made it so good! Nice and sour, just how we like it!

Nice looking bread Valerie!

I was encouraged to also post here so I figured I would share again! I've been looking into decorative desserts for quite some time, particularly cookie decorating. I have been experimenting with a few sugar cookie recipes and finally picked a good one. Found a royal icing recipe I really like as well. My goal is to take some beautiful cookies for family Christmas so I need all the practice I can get. In between a pile of dishes and messy hands covered in icing, here's the evolution of baking/decorating as I try to get better! I told my husband I want to decorate cookies so nice you're scared to eat them because they're too pretty!

Halloween - Attempt #1 at decorative cookies. Mainly trying to get the cookie recipe down at this point and get familiar with royal icing. A bit burnt as I learned to adjust time, and the poor pumpkin looks goofy.

Family Birthday - My second attempt at these cookies- nailed the recipe and times, so this was about getting a plan for decorating and how to go about it. Learned more about adjusting thickness of icing and how to stage the icing so it didn't run together. These were cute penguins!

Thanksgiving - Tonight's my third go at sugar cookies. Unfortunately, messed up some of my royal icing coloring so they didn't quite get the right color due to too much or lack of food coloring. Because this is the season for pies, these cookies all resembled various holiday pies. Lattice on them wasn't wide enough but still, for my third ever attempt I'm pretty happy.

Welcome to the Home Baker's thread...always room in the kitchen for another baker!

Hey,

I am not trying to sound morbid, but I feel a need to say this:

There was an accident while I was hunting, and I almost died.

No, I was not shot by another hunter, I slipped and fell in freezing cold water. I had to swim back to shore. It was scary.

I am just letting you all know that I am okay. I am not hurt except for a few minor scratches.

I am thankful to be alive!

Jared
That's scary stuff glad you're safe and sound. I fell through the ice when I was deer hunting, thankfully I had a buddy who pulled me out and knew what to do. In my case, just stand with arms outstretched. The water froze almost instantly never penetrating the clothing.

Well I made Asiago bread yesterday, but I'd like to do better. Here's the base recipe https://www.food.com/recipe/asiago-cheese-bread-excellent-261935 I used bread flour, took out a cup and added 3/4 cup whole wheat and 1/4 cup rye. Wasn't able to get to a soft dough. Even though it turned out well, I'd like to soften it up a bit. Would love thoughts. Here's a couple pics. The crumb is nice and soft, but not as airy as I'd like.
