Any Home Bakers Here?

I will have to look at the 2000 pennies. Most of my extra pennies are 1957 and back.

Wait a second. Do you happen to have any of the following?

1955 wheat penny

1943 penny

I ask because the 1955 wheat penny can sometimes have an error. It can be worth up to $700.

a 1943 copper penny is about the same. They switched to steel that year, but some copper slipped through circulation.

If you do happen to have any of these, they can be worth a lot of money. You just need a coin expert to confirm if they're worth a lot.

There was an article about the current sourdough craze in the US. Some think sourdough is waste full, likely because you sometimes toss a cup. People are weird!
There is an 18th century cooking channel on youtube I watch and he did a show on "bacteria bread" which was a very rudimentary sourdough. They didn't keep a starter, they would mix everything and leave it for somewhere around 36 hours in a wooden bowl to pull yeast out of the air. They never washed the bowl and left crusty dough bits stuck to it which would help the next one rise better and faster. A less wasteful version of sourdough.

But, if you cook with your sourdough often, you shouldn't need to toss any. Feed it to the point that it is as much as needed for the recipe + as much as you want to keep, then use the fed starter and you are back to where you started, then just feed it again the same way next time.... It's only if you feed it without using it that you should be needing to toss any (or use it in an unfed starter recipe)

I don't know why anyone would keep a starter and not use it. In a pinch toss some but you can use the discard for a lot of things. The crumpets I made took literally 10 minutes including cook time and they can be kept a few days if you don't eat them right away.

I saw a recipe for discard crackers. That would use some if you had to discard some starter.

I was just looking at the KA site for something to bake with my grandsons and saw a recipe there for crackers. They want to make the pretzels though so we're going to try that first. I also saw a biscuit recipe there I'd like to try.

Woman, you’re just talking crazy! How do you not use those things right away?! They are so stinking addictive!!
So true! So far I've made them twice and we ate them all.
How do you like them BC? We had breakfast sandwiches but I like them with butter and a little honey or real maple syrup too.
