Agree.I did that with my grandmother. She was the best cook in the county- people paid her to make their Thanksgiving pies cakes and dressing. I watched, documented and attempted to make. Mine is pretty good, but not the same as hers. I think no one can imitate the magic of a great cook.
I got some pepitas at the store the other day to add. Hubs really liked them with the craisins but 3/4 C was too much in my opinion. I’ve already had a request for more! Will be making some tomorrow so might pick up some dates to try your idea.I love putting some coconut in them, it gives them some chewiness. Since the recipe calls for 1 1/2 cups of add ins, I do 1/2 cup coconut, 1/2 cup some sort of nut (or seed like pepitas) and 1/2 cup of dried fruit. Works out well for us.
