Any Home Bakers Here?

I got Pearl White Leghorns from McMurrays. I currently have 4 and am getting 4 eggs daily without supplying supplemental light or heat.

I had one skip a day this month. She had laid an egg for 22 days straight. The other 3 had laid an egg for at least 32 days straight as of yesterday.
I got 3 Smokeypearls and 2 Isa Browns doing the same thing. I thought one had skipped but it was under the roost! :gig

Bakers good afternoon one and all!

58 sunny 40% humidity feels like 57 rain 0%.

The temperatures for each of you seem to be about what you need to be baking.

Have a great day!
36°F and 41% humidity. Sunny and very windy.

I made GF peanut butter cookies from the recipe my MIL used when we were down there. I think my home made PB is a bit drier than the Jif (or Skippy or whatever), as they were a little crumblier. So next time, I'll add an extra tablespoon or so of PB. And some cinnamon, too, I think.

Don't worry, the ones I made will get eaten. Eventually. :lau

No doubt. Can you recommend any birds that are not white? And um, not Brown Leghorn?
Pretty much any breed that starts laying eggs My Aug-sept will lay through the first winter. Most will lay less but still lay eggs. They Leghorns and sex links will lay more eggs in winter.

They usually molt the next fall and unless they are winter layers, they will stop when the light level gets too low for them. for many breeds that is between 10 and 12 hours of light in a day.

For the past year I've been learning how to bake yeast breads here at home. It's been challenging and rewarding (when it all comes together right, lol).

Today for the 1st time I made up a Boule recipe and ran into a snag. Is there anyone here that's familiar with yeast breads? Since I'm here several times a day reading about chickens, it would be great to chat with others that also bake.

Hints, Tips and How-to's
I have made my Mom's bread recipe in the past. It makes 5 loaves at a time and can be put in the freezer for later use. Since being diagnosed celiac in 2004, I now bake everything gluten free. If you would like my Mom's bread recipe, I am happy to share it.

HI everyone haven't been around due to my fiance starting his own business and him needing me to help out. I haven't been able to bake a single darn thing. SO upsetting.
I am glad there are a few of us on here now. I am hoping that maybe as the holidays draw closer that we can maybe do a cookie recipe swap. I love love love love to make cookies!!! This weekend I am hoping to make cinnamon rolls.
Happy Baking
Jenn
I like the idea of a cookie recipe swap as well. I have several recipes and they can be made regular or gluten free.

For the first time, I had to purchase a goose for Christmas dinner. I was unable to get one by hunting.
You gave it a good try though! Where are you going to buy your goose?

Well see, that's where I've been doing it wrong! I keep getting mine in March! Thanks for the tip!
I twice got chicks end of April, early May thinking they would start about the time the older girls shut down. They did ... then bailed on me by mid December. I'm back to first week of June chicks!!

No doubt. Can you recommend any birds that are not white? And um, not Brown Leghorn?
How about ALMOST not white? ;) I got 2 AustraWhites (Black Australorp x White Leghorn) chicks from Meyer June 2021. Dang do those girls lay well, and always high end of Large if not XL.

They are, however basically white with the occasional black feather here and there. One has more of a Leghorn comb, the other an Australorp comb so I can easily tell them apart. They are built more like the Leghorn half than the Australorp half.

Of course, now being 1.5 years old, they have shut down for the winter.

And then you can go with me to the grocery store and pick out whatever you think we should have on hand. :gig
The :gig might be on you! The receipt is a lot longer and shows a lot more spent when DW goes to the grocery store with me!!

They usually molt the next fall and unless they are winter layers, they will stop when the light level gets too low for them.
I have had "winter layers", they never laid in the winter past their first.
