Could have eaten a poisoned mouse.
:(

My family does not use poison for mice, because we know that the owls and the feral cats help keep the population down and we do not want to poison them.

It could’ve eaten a poisoned mouse somewhere else, though.

It’s a pretty big owl, so I speculate that it was just old age.

OK, I got an update on the owl situation.

Before I say anything, know that I took care of this legally and that I followed instructions from the government agencies.

I spoke to dispatch and IDFG. I told them my situation, and they told me that I was authorized to pick up the owl, put it in a bag, and put it in the trashcan. They told me that I was not allowed to keep any part of it. I carried out those instructions, and the situation was taken care of properly.

They also told me that it probably ran into the ash tree, because it was trying to daytime fly, and it couldn’t see well in the daytime. It probably broke its neck when it hit the tree.

Strange thing is that my dog approached it, and put his head down as if he was mourning and paying his respects.

Well, that’s the update. Now I need to make breakfast.
