SSRI=Selective Seritonin Reuptake Inhibitor. Prozac, Paxil, etc. they take 11 weeks or so for effectiveness, but the trauma of cardiac pain tends to lead to depression. SSRI's treat depression. Mind you, it is not the same thing as sadness or anxiety. Depression means "cant move, can't sleep, can't eat, can't get up and go", for instance the drive is depressed, like stepping on a stick will depress the stick into the mud. Trauma and pain often lead to depression. SSRI's treat physically depressed brains.

But mostly, I believe the usual rule is 3 nitros and you're on your way to the ER. Why 5 nitros and no ER? Do you have supplemental oxygen there? I'm going to say a prayer for you.

ok, now I get it. My wife takes Paxil CR, so I know what that is.

And my Doc said take three nitros and if I had to take the fourth to take it in the car on the way to the ER.
But Doc wasn't here

Yeah, I know, I'm hard headed. Just know we can't afford any more doctor's bills right now.

and thank you for the prayer.

In my case, that might be all that works.

I know where you're coming from. It took me six years to pay off most of my cardiologist's bill from my last event.

Still, if you're so worn out, and you're the one who knows your special heart best, I'd hate to think of you getting worse if it could be fixed today with a little support, like oxygen for a few days? I wish you could get cared for by some competent doctors. I know that's asking a lot, but that's what I'll pray for. Been there, done that.

None of us would mind the expensive stress echo, ekg, blood tests, nuclear myoviews, etc, if the doctors ever spent an afternoon with us trying to figure out how to make it stop hurting. If they could care, it would be easier to go to them when it hurts. I know your frustration, so I will pray for your wellness despite our crummy healthcare system. I know a few good doctors now, so I feel like I have somebody to ask for help when I need it next time. I will pray you can get some decent care for your pain, too, OK?

Thanks,
I can see we feel alike on that.

Noodleroo is correct about the digestion thing. You should be eating very small meals several times a day to avoid stress on your heart. Do you practice deep, meditative breathing? This will really help you during those attacks too. Deep, deep breath in, hold for a few seconds and then blow slowly out so that the exhale lasts longer than the inhale. In through the nose and out through the mouth. If you can visualize clean, white, healthy, life-giving oxygen coming in and bad, dark, heart harming Co2 going out that can help too. Doctor told me once that as long as you can take a deep breath you're not having a heart attack so I practice this regularly so I can self-calm whenever I'm having one of my episodes.
Hope you feel better soon.

I've had bad heart health too. And a heart attack and 6 stents now and I'm 37 yrs. old. I am tired alot too and yes, it can be depressing.

I would ask you if you and your wife seem to be disabled or not making much money than have you sought out either S.S. or S.S.I. and also govt. assistance? I would think you could qualify for medical, food stamps, and perhaps more...like help with utilities at times when they are doing the heating/cooling programs. Every little bit helps.

to a fellow chicken friend.

Take care of your heart...you're wife and kiddos need you...go to the dr. young man! Switch dr.'s too if you don't like the one but are you not liking him because he needs tests? well, duh...how's he supposed to help you if he doesn't get the info he needs? Come on, you know you're event was terrifying and it's time to seek help. May the Lord be with you and may all the bycers talk some sense into your stubborn butt.

Thanks Maple,
As for the SSI, my wife has been trying for a couple years to get it and they just give her the runaround. She has COPD and another breathing thing I know I can't spell. Only had 40% use of her lungs a couple years ago, and I know she's worse now. She has to take a whole bag full of different pills each day, has 4 inhalers she has to use daily, can't even play with the kids without getting to huffing and wheezing and trying to find her emergency inhaler... you get the picture, and she's only 38 years old. She also has sleep apnea (? not sure on the spelling) and is on medication for depression and other mental health issues. We know several people getting SSI who are in perfect health, except for lazyitous (Some are even kin to us). They give them a check every month and they will not even help my wife who worked all her life and is really sick... can you tell that's a sore spot with me?
We "earn too much" for any kind of assitance, or so they tell my wife. It doesn't feel that way as I pay most of my emplyees more than I get to take home after taxes. I never tried to get any help myself, just wasn't raised that way. We were raised to work for what we got, but my wife has tried everything just to get help with her medicines. I hate wal-mart with a passion, but thanks to them she gets several of her medications for like $7.00 now that used to cost me $300.00 plus per month.
Myself, I'm not disabled. Headstrong, stubbern, bull-headed... yeah, I'll own up to that, but I can work most of the time and I'm one of those crazy people that LIKES to work. I get bored if I have to sit still.
My family doctor is great. We just love him to pieces. But the heart doctor is the meanest, most hateful piece of work I've ever met. Everyone around here agrees he's the best around this area, but...

I don't have a problem with tests being run... just think up some new ones darn it, I'm tired of paying for the same old tests, getting the same results, year after year. Plus, they already told me there is nothing they can do.

Acually, I'm very much at peace with dying when my time rolls around, it's the recovery time that's driving me bats! I faced all my demons years ago. I've lived a good life, raised 5 great kids, married and been loved by a wonderful woman, been everywhere, done about everything (Some of which I shouldn't have done

) there is to do, I've rode bulls, fought men, been loved, sailed the ocean, climbed mountains, made wonderful freinds, seen the miracle of chilbirth, bleed, laughed, cried, saved lives, seen beauty, and loved ever minute of it.

Everybody dies... not everybody truely lives...

I've lived!
