Any ideas on hauling heritage turkeys? includes lots of TURKEY PICS!

When we transported ours to the butcher we used the white corn sacks. Cut a hole for the head, and tied the feet into the bottom. They layed down the whole way, and thier heads were out to get fresh air. With that many, you will want to put straw in the bed of the truck, to keep them from rolling around, but they should transport well that way. Check with your local feed mill. I bet you can get a few sacks there. We save ours....for just this reason! Good luck, and let us know how you do.

i like the idea above me, OR tightly but not to the point that it causes the birds pain, tie their legs together, and then tie their wings together and just put a sock over thier head (so they aren't as stressed) and transport them laying down tied in the bed of the truck, The wings tied so they can't flap, legs tied so they can't run. May sound mean but if you do it right it wont hurt them.

When I worked at the poultry auction people would bring turkeys in like justusnak said. Inside of the feed sacks, with the heads sticking out.
That is a nice looking group of turkeys!

Hey thanks for the good ideas.
I just called another farmer and he's going to lend his crates to me! Yay. There are chicken crates, but if you turn them vertical you can put one turkey in each crate.

We use the feed sack method when transporting peafowl too, it's hard to get those tails in a crate, he he
