Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Hi Angela,

What does the cream legbar roo do when the teenager is running around like a silly billy? Just curious. This brings me to a question I've been wondering about. I am thinking of getting a second small flock. About the same size as my current one, 10 girls with a roo. I was thinking of replicating the coop and run I currently have, and setting it up across this barnyard from the other coop. The thought would be one flock would get to free range in the am, the other in the pm. Eventually the goal would be as the second flock grew up and were old enough, could these two flocks be left out simultaneously? Would they not mess with each other, and just peacefully coexist? I have to put a lot of thinking and planning into it, and also $$ so am starting to educate myself as to what I have to do. What are your thoughts Brooster?

They could definitely coexist peacefully. I do wonder though if over time, the flocks might shift socially. Eventually, they might start to interchange nesting boxes, or try to all go to sleep in the same coop? And they would definitely intermingle mating-wise. So if you were planning to hatch pure breed eggs, that might be an issue. Honestly, I'm not sure?

I've actually just built a smaller coop onto the other side of my run, and built a removable divider in the middle of the run so that I can separate my flocks into groups for breeding. At other times, I plan to use the smaller coop as a nursery for growing chicks. I'm planning to let them free range at different times. When I want to integrate the flock, I can just take down the divider, but I was kind of wondering the same thing. If I take down the divider, will they all start sleeping in the same coop, or will they continue to sleep and lay in the coops they're accustomed to? I've always kept all my chickens together until now, so it's a big experiment for me. I'm sure there are folks on here who could answer all our questions.

Yes, wondered all the things you have pointed out. I am hoping with this second flock of having some different breeds, real fantasy breeds I have been wishing for, and I wouldn't mind just having one roo, the Super star Roo I am hoping for. Duke would have to go, but would want the first flock to have their protection.

I do also go to this thread

Lots of great information that was started as an off shoot from another older thread. some great natural chicken keeping information on there pertaining to fermenting feed, which I would love to try and also natural supplements, gardening, etc. There are a lot of very experienced people on there I have learned a great deal from . Nice bunch. There was a bit of grousing about going off topic a bit ago.. funny really, but it is all good. I can ask in there. Also a lot of very experienced people about incubating and broodies. Would love to try that too one day...I can ask in there.

Hey, have to share a video that I just couldn't stop laughing about.. it's adorable!

Hey Guys, Been out in the woods chasing antlered animals! Had a great trip and always relaxing to be in the woods. All the girls are doing well, eggs are getting bigger overall everyday. We had our largest so far that weighed 63.3 grams two days ago. Been consistently getting 8 or 9 eggs each day. I am not 100% sure but I think Lemon laid yesterday as there was a much smaller blue egg than we have been getting from Owlie. Still have not gotten the 10 for 10 day but I think we are getting close. Have a lot of reading to catchup on to see how everyone has been doing. Got to go for now.

3 eggs here today. The weather is pouring rain and sleet, and the chickens didn't care anything about free ranging today.

I'm hoping for better weather this weekend, although they're calling for snow. I'd love to finish up the nursery coop and move the babies outside with a lamp. They're getting so big! Do you see all the combs?! I'm no closer to figuring out who's a girl and who's a boy. There are only 2 of the 10 that I'm 100% sure about (both boys of course)
