Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

My Mom came up today and I told her that I knew there were at least 2 eggs in the nest box if she wanted to go get them. We went out there and opened the lid and Daphne and Bess were in the nest box. Bess was sitting on 2 eggs and Daphne laid and egg and my Mom got to watch it. Her first time witnessing an egg being laid. She was so eggcited. Then after Daphne laid the egg Bess reached over and tried taking it from right under her bum. As she was reaching to get Daphne's egg Daphne was reaching over and took one of the eggs Bess was sitting on. It was quite comical. My Mom and I were both laughing so hard. It was fun.

Tabatha, Our Cuckoo Maran

Yesterday she was checking out the box...

And today she gave us a tiny brown egg. Tabatha's is the one on the left. I was hoping it would be darker... and it is darker then the one on the right from our gold star. Tabatha is 21 weeks old.

Hello all. GREAT thread, I think I've read the entire thing and it is awesome. I'm excited to be a member. I'm a newbee, recently got my first four chicks, they are just 5 weeks. But I have already added two more because I am completely hooked on them and having a blast. I realize I have a long wait ahead of me but reading all the comments will make me an expert by the time my first one appears. Thanks for having me.
Great to have you, you will find we talk about a whole lot more than eggs--- It will be fun following you. It seems like mine were babies a long time ago even though they are only 7 months old. LOL They grow up so fast.

I finally got my first egg on Wednesday, it was perfect color shape and everything. We opened it and it looked beautiful too, however, we havne't had any since then. I am eagerly looking daily and nothing! I hope they get in the groove soon, my four BSL are all six months old and ready so my patience is strained. I know in a few weeks once my GSL's are starting to lay too I will wonder what to do with all of them, but now I just want one of them to start laying regularly.

Hi! I am new to BYC and to chickens in general~ We jumped Right in though, now we have 22! We have 5 ex battery hens who are still in moult, so no eggs yet. All of our others are still chicks really. We do not have any that are over 6 weeks old. Hello abw67, don't worry about the wait, we have lots of members here who have chicks the same age, as they just hatched some. So happy to have you here! My first egg came on New Years Eve, and have been rolling along at an unbelievable rate. From what I have read, they will never be as productive as this first go around, every day I wonder how long it will last and when it will slow down, perhaps after June 21st,, the summer solstice. I sure will miss these eggs when they go into shutdown/molt. It will be very interesting to see how next laying season compares to this one! Do you have any pictures to share? We all LOVE to see everyones chickens... great stuff! Welcome again!

Don't worry, before long they will all be up and running and laying soon.. Just to be sure, do they free range? No possibility of someone having a nest hiding somewhere? I have thoroughly enjoyed gifting eggs to my friends and family. I know it sounds like you'll never get there, but you will. At first, the kids would get off the school bus and ask for egg sandwiches and french toast! We were going through the daily eggs like mad. I added an Ameruacana hen and roo to the flock, ( they still are going through the adjustments, I swear those pullets are just like middle school girls!), and now I have a beautiful blue egg 5 times a week! Glad to have you join us Julie!

Hello CG! We are so happy to hear from you, and WELCOME! Wow, you bring something new to our thread, and I would LOVE to hear more about it! How did you come to get the battery hens? Has transitioning them been difficult, any health issues? So wonderful of you to take them in. I found a very interesting article on here about a woman who saved some battery hens, and she blogged about it. There was some very useful information on it, I am going to try and find it for you I swear, since getting chickens, and learning about conditions at most battery farms, I was just devestated. How old are they now? Would love to see some pictures of them.. The others sound lovely, you have some good breeds there! Please come back often and give us updates, and pictures, would love to see them all. Welcome!!

TO THE EGG WAITING, CHICKEN LOVING THREAD!!! So nice to see new people joining our talk group about our chickens. I have been super busy, this time of year is crazy with school, and childrens schedules. I also lost my wireless router which has kept me off line a bit. So happy to have more BYCers join in! welcome!
