Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Hi, I am new here and I have some new birds as well. I love all the pics. All of you have some beautiful birds. I got my chicks in mid July. That puts us about 18 weeks as well. I am getting excited about eggs too. I had been told that I would have to wait till spring but I hear so much about hens laying in the winter. We also don't get all that cold out here in Southern California, so I am hoping for eggs soon too. I have 2 Ameraucanas, 2 Rhode Islands Reds & 4 Andalusians. I think m RR will lay first. They just seem bigger and look more developed.
I never knew about egg song or some of the behaviors so now I know what to look for. Thanks

Talk about egg songs..... WOW....

Bawk, Bawk, Bawk.. BaaaCawwwwww...lol.

I think this video is from member aoxa put up on Youtube. I don't think she would mind. Have a listen....

I've two Barred Rocks that were hatched in June. Purchased them as POL the start of Nov. They're about 22 weeks old now. One girl had reddening of comb when purchased and the other is finally showing good color too. I'm not expecting any eggs for another 2 weeks. For me every breed took 24 weeks excepting blue Orpington last year that went over 30 weeks to give eggs.

Due to a skunk killing a Blue Rock last week we are seriously awaiting more eggs. The 2.5 year old production reds are spotty with eggs as they are still coming out of molt and my remaining Blue Rock seems to have stopped production after last weeks attack. Was lucky to have one eggs in my basket and one in the nest to make mac and cheese yesterday.

Please post pictures of your birds when you get a chance. I would love to see them, especially the Andalusians. I have a 6 week old Blue Andalusian and I think she is the most beautiful of my birds and she loves my husband and is very happy to be held.

Egghead_Jr,

Soooorryyyy about the skunk hit. I so hate the thought of predetors harming my small flock, but since they are out free ranging behind and on the side of my property, I know something, ,someday will happen. I am only at 17 weeks, so thinking I have a bit longer as well. I have 2 production reds. Do you remember when yours started laying?

Thanks for joining in!

True Dat... as my teenage boys say! I have a neighbor on the side where my coop and run are that isn't too pleasant when it comes to animals. First year that we lived here, their old German Shorthair Pointer who was a beautiful ol gal used to come and deposit her morning "gift" in my horse paddock, I guess they forget that! She is gone now..of old age. At least the manure produced here is fertilizer! lol... if it were money, I'd be a wealthy woman between the horses and chickens!

Happy day before Thanksgiving all...

YAY I have 2 hens laying now. Hoping the other 3 start soon. I feed my dogs an egg a piece in the evenings so that is 3, plus we have eggs on the weekends. I am thinking my 5 girls should produce enough for us. Of course in the spring I plan on adding a couple new ones.

My birds are about 18 weeks old. I love the color of my Andalusians. They have always been pretty birds. But I like my others as well. I have 2 RR and 2 Ameraucans. Yes there are some turkeys in the background.... one of them should be for Thanksgiving Dinner.
