Well, my hens have really gotten into the laying groove. 4 out of 4 eggs for 6 days running, now!

I see all the wonderful reports of the numbers of eggs and while I am so excited for y'all...I'm feeling left out. Is there any one left waiting for eggs???? I feel like the last one chosen for PE here....

Oh No, you are in great company. I too sit and live vicariously through our friends.

I know it is getting close now. My BA has been singing and today she squatted for me.
Any day now.

. I've been filling my time with some spring planting. Am trying a
container garden this year since the ground here in Sunny AZ is hard as a rock.
So far have several herbs planted, lettuce and radishes are appearing. Tomatoes, pepper
plants, zucchini and beans are taking their time. Planted some flower pots. I feel so
thankful for the simple things in life. Wishing you all a wonderful evening.

Quick question before I go to bed... its 9:31pm here in the Caribbean and pass my bed time. Should I put my girls back on the layer feed. They seem to miss it....

Well that big snow storm completely missed my neck of the woods but put some snow down just an hour south and west of us. Sorry MB, I hear it's coming your way. My crazy barred rock is on her 3rd day of isolation. She's doing well and has gotten back to her old self, with me anyway. She hopped in my lap last night for some cuddling. She hadn't done that in a while. She has been very warm at night which I gauge by whether her water freezes, ha ha, so far, it hasn't. I'm nervous about reintroducing her. How do I know when it's time? and, how do I go about it. I thought I'd try putting her out in the evening with everyone for a little free ranging before bed time, maybe just before dark. I noticed a little conflict going on between my RIR and my other barred rock, harmless, but I can see the 2 of them battling it out for top rung.

When I banished my bully for the week, I reintroduced at free range time because I thought if her behavior was going to start, there would be plenty of room for the picked on one to get away I also thought then, I could observe while they started to get ready for bed. I noticed at dusk, she was a bit confused and went into the run last. That is when i knew she had been humbled by the whole thing. As I said, she didn't stay meek for long,, she is just a bold girl, but she never retained top woman status. Two are above her, but thankfully for me, she never attacked that poor low rung pullet again. I see hard pecks at the treat table, or over some chop meat, but it's far within normal parameters of pullet life, and not the full on attack she was doing. I think we all have to remember this is where the term "pecking order" came from. There is always going to be the climb up and down the rungs of the ladder. Alas, reality exists even within our animals. I see it with my horses, my dogs, and certainly within my children. Funny how the position changes with different stimuli as well.

Crafty chick, our wind chill is -4 today, but I think they have such bad cabin fever at this point that they just don't care.

MB, I so wish we had school buses like that! Honestly, I think our schools should be better prepared to handle the bad weather. I'm tired of my kids' educations being interrupted every time we get a few flakes. It seems so silly to me. We live in the mountains. We know there's going to be a lot of snow. I realize it would take time and money to upgrade the school buses, and I certainly wouldn't want to endanger anyone, but some days it's just ridiculous. A couple of weeks ago we had a snow day that started off with an inch of snow, but by lunchtime it had warmed into the upper 50's. We spent our "snow day" afternoon playing frisbee in the yard. I think for the school board it's become more of a liability issue than an education one.

Rant ended. The snow we have today is for real, and it is beautiful! I already got 6 eggs today.

Going back to the hard boiled eggs, I have always had the worst time trying to boil and peel my eggs. I know the older ones are better for that, but I've never figured out the magic formula.
