Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Welcome newbies to this thread-- I'm in a rotten foul mood this morning. Weather forecast yesterday "no snow north of the turnpike", well, we're north of the turnpike and I awoke to 25 MPH winds and snow like a freaking blizzard--seriously?? Lake effect they say, no where in yesterday's forecast did Lake effect snow ever get mentioned-my run is covered in drifts, the girls don't want to go out, and my wonderfully prefabbed freaking coop is too small for food/water and 4 birds--- so, I tried to cover as much of the run with plastic to keep the snow out, but it'll get ripped off,, had they called for this weather, I would have had my *** out there yesterday trying to get it winterized--- seriously HATE this FREAKING weather. Someone laid a soft shell and of course, they were all trying to eat it and since it's so windy, I can't open the cleaning hatch to get inside so I had half my body in the entrance trying to remove poo and egg and they're freaking out and dumping food everywhere!! AGGGHHHHHH Good thing I'm small or i'd have been stuck inside with them probably pecking my eyes out because this weather pisses them off too.

Unfortunately, if they wanter water, they're going to have to go down their ramp to get it. LOL Happy Monday.
Complain away kdwag!

I am SO HEARING your dispair over here. I just can't remember me ever being this grouchy about the weather. We are supposed to be getting that stuff after you, and I think my DH is going to stay 100 miles south near his work if it comes here, for fear of having to listen to me _itch and moan about snow again. Truly, are my little nieces and nephews going to have to wear snow boots on SUnday to find thier Easter Eggs? I have a very similar set up here, if there is blowing wind and drifts, the flock stays in their coop, which is rather small, and I have to put the food n water inside, which leaves them hardly any floor space to move. I am going to have to order some clear heavy duty tarps for next year and do a better job with shielding that wind.
What a drag about the soft shelled egg....that would add to my frustration as well. GRRRRRRRRRR,, hang in there love... hopefully the temps will rise about 45 and get a hold of this white _rap on the ground!
Sending you a big hug!

Hey everyone!

This is an amazing thread about waiting for an egg to be hatched, which had been left on her doorstep.... Who knows what it actually is. I'm enthralled. (Warning: This thread is addictive and will cause you to get behind in your chores/homework/whatever).

It is just beginning to hatch out now.

If nothing else, it will distract you from your wait for your own eggs....

Hi Spikes!!!

I am always so happy to see your posts!

THANKS A LOT! Another 15 minutes now on BYC every time I sign on...loll.... This is amazing.. I can't wait to read the whole thread thru to catch up, have to head out to the animals first. Kids are on Spring Break here, and it was so lovely to get to sleep in I am sure the flock is super mad though, I do have to get that automatic door this year.

LOL

Oh how I sympathize...
My kids are having their 18th snow day today. Plus the weather forecast is for up to 18" more between now and Wednesday with the highest temp being 25 degrees. Awesome. I kind of have the same water issue with my small coop. They're just going to have to walk down the dang ramp.

Not the first day of spring anymore...but you get the idea.

Morning Brooster.... we are on spring break, so no possibilites of snow days....I can't believe this! What a flippin night mare.! Along those lines,, I just saw this one too..

I'm thinking about one of those automatic coop doors too. I'm sure I'd lay awake worrying it wouldn't work or that someone would get killed from the door falling on them or something!!! LOL I did get one solid egg today so far. The wind has lightened a bit but it's still snowing. I was thinking this storm wasn't supposed to go too farth north upstate NY and that even NYC would get less than 1/2 inch. But, they missed it by a mile here--- well, I guess our snow is from Lake Erie (not frozen over anymore) and not the storm, but who knows. Ok, I guess i've griped about the weather plenty.

I was researching a couple of more breeds but I always get worried about breeds that say they are broody. If I don't ever want hatched babies, should I not consider a broody breed or does it matter? I really want a couple of easter eggers.

when I bought the flock, I picked breeds that tended not to go broody as well. Now, 8 months later, and totally hooked I have decided if one of them did every go broody, I might just give her a bunch of eggs and see what happens I have a friend who would take the chicks as well. I have considered when I get the fanstasy second flock of getting a cochin, or a silkie so I would have a broody to throw some eggs under. I would be lying too if I didn't admit to you all that i have been checking out incubators as well......

shhhhhhhh.... did I say that?
