Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

Okay, I have to post this. It's too long to watch much of so don't unless you really want to. My tortoise has been hanging out in the chickens' courtyard...didn't think much of it since he ranges all over the yard and the chicken run is new (to him).. Today, however, I saw something I've never seen before....he is actually CHASING the chickens and bobbing his head. He's about 16 years and has apparently just reached his sexual maturity....I think he wants to mate with the hens!!!! ROFL I've never seen him move so fast!

I wish I could stick the video directly in this box, but it won't let me so I put it up on youtube....

Xshoshin I love the Mr. Rogers picture and words. When I was a little girl, I used to wish Mr. Rogers was my neighbor or that I could live in
that castle with the puppets. That speedy delivery guy used to creep me out though for some reason. Thanks for
the funny memory amidst the crazy of what is sadly becoming our norms.

We lived on Long Island when 9/11 happened and approx 30 members of our small village were murdered. It was a horrendous
time. Thankfully our family members were all able to make it home. Some friends of the family, not so lucky. Our children were
teenagers at the time. It certainly has given them a completely different take on childhood than I have. Thankfully, there were so many
helpers during that time...

Mr. Rogers always made me (and I'm sure so many children) feel safe. Who plays that role now for this generation of children?
I will use the words of Mrs. Rogers with my Grandson.
Gotta keep looking for the things to be thankful for. (right now that is my Grandson's laughter as I'm typing this)

Thank you again.

KK,
I didn't realize you were a former NYer. Such a stressful time, sometimes I can recall sitting in front of that television as if it were 5 minutes ago. I am sorry you lived through that here as well. Were you from Rockville Center? We lived for 20 years in Garden City before moving up to Dutchess County, NY. What year did you move?

Kiss that grandbaby from all of us!

Hey MB - yes, we were in RVC. What a small world it is. We moved in 2004 to AZ and are enjoying
the slower pace. All my family is still in NY. My brothers all live in RVC. My parents are in LB.
Not sure how they can stand all the natural and unnatural disasters that hit the area. I was quite
ready to leave and enjoy the wide open spaces the desert has to offer. They don't know how I
can stand it being away from the ocean. They like to get away to the wide open spaces of Upstate.
To each their own. It's a pleasure to find you here my friend.

Same to you love, truly amazing how people find each other. Do you ever come East for a visit? You are right, so many different things America has to offer, something for everyone. My DH worked in So. California for 3 years while my son finished his high school years at Chaminade, boy did we rack up the frequent flier miles, but he spent a bit of time in Arizona and told me he could understand why people move out there. He loved the break from the relentless summer humidity, and dampness in the air. he has a lot of hardware in his body from several work related injuries, and he loves to get away from the dampness, and the cold.

Hugs to you fellow New Yourrrrkkkaaa!

I am also sorry to hear about your loss. I never thought I could grow so attached to chickens, and I dread the day that something happens to one of my girls, but I also know that it is inevitable.
