Any SHELTIES out there?

we have 3 shelties at the moment........ Star is a 4 year old sable Merlin is a 5 year old Blue merle and Destiny is almost a year old and she is sable! we love our shelties and they are a mjor part of the family here. they go just about everywhere with us. the chickens dont like destiny tho! lol

Merlin is bigger at 18 inches tall and he and i are very bonded. Star is 15 inches tall and while she has a very short coat, is just a doll! and Destiny is tiny. we were told she would be arount 14 inches tall but she is hardly 10 inches tall! lol we are a busy household and the shelties love it! lol ill have to take some recent pics.... when i do ill post em on here!!

Collie size (as in, the dogs whose bloodlines were eventually split into all of the contemporary breeds) originally fluctuated according to whether the dog was bred more for distance herding or homestead management, much as it currently does in different lines of English Shepherds. However, I do agree with you - a well-put-together midsize dog is much more versatile! The AKC has expanded the breed standard up to 75 lbs. so the breeders can support their big dog habit... I have a boy named Maynard who's 70 lbs, and that's just TOO BIG for me. Destructive tail, clumsy paws, and he never knows when his big butt's in the way. But he's a great babysitter.

Good luck with finding your sheltie someday!

We picked her up this last Labor day evening. 3.5yrs old and an absoulute joy! Smart, fast, a bit hyper with new experiences & people but settles down once she understands it's not going to kill or eat her. A natural herder & is going to be a great help w/Scovies. She gets along w/all 4 of our cats and esp. our 5mo old Thomas.... they are buds.

My daughter wanted a small froo froo dog, but I like then big. So I ran across an ad for Sheltie mix and I got her a pup. His name is Lucky Peanut Jr. He is 5 and one of the best dogs we have. He is on the timid side, but very friendly. Smart as a whip, sometimes too smart. He will always check to see if I'm watching him before he does something naughty. His biggest bad habbit as a pup was he was a table surfer. One day he was washing the dishes on the table for me and he knocked off a plate and it broke. It scared him so bad, he never washed the dishes again.

Holloween. Daughter was a vet and Lucky was her patient.

Growing up we had the most fabulous family dog...our sable sheltie `Laddie`. He was the greatest companion ever and as a teenager I dragged that poor dog everywhere. I remember having an arguement with my high school principal who told me I could not bring my dog to school (I was a bit of a rebel)...he use to love coming with me on horseback rides and put up with the multitude of pets my sister and I brought home. I missed him so much when he died at 17 that I was not able to bring myself to get another when I had my own children. We have had lovely labs though.
My only one foresure plan for retirement is that I want to breed shelties.
I love seeing all your photos and each one is so beautiful.

Shelby Lynn and my Laddie could have been brother and sister...they look so much alike in the face. I don`t have a digital photos of him though....way back in the day. I`ll try to scan one.

Nothing cuter than a Sheltie puppy!

My collie decided that she was getting too old for all that agility nonsense, so I have been looking around for a Sheltie from a kennel with known agility performers for quite a while now. At last, here is the new addition to the household! Introducing Windy!

Playing with (very) big sister, Katie the collie, who is being an extraordinarily gentle playmate to a very tiny Windy:
