Any tips on how to kill a coyote in a residential neighborhood?

Put on camo clothes, .. sneak up behind it. (use a dead chicken as bait..NOT your chicken though)
While its busy eating, jump on its back... and hold on TIGHT! It will take off running.. just make SURE you dont let go.

Uh... not sure what to do next... i never made it past the jumping on its back part..

I use a .22 with hollow points in the city limits also. I can shoot out the window and the noise is not bad at all. We have coyotes also but they are very clever and don't hang around long, so I've never had any success in shooting one. They stroll through at random times of day and keep moving. They are as big as German Shepherds.

If
it were me I would hang a coupla snares 12-14" loops 12-14" off the walking surface ( most cats will walk underneath this ) with deer stops installed the deer stop prevents the snare from dispatching the animal they make it able to chose to dispatch or relocate wrestling a yote with a catch pole is much like riding rodeo for a coupla minutes I dispatch yotes on a fairly regular basis with .22 shorts they do not exit the body my shots are made from abt 5-15' away from the animal

Contact your local fish and game and ask them for the name of the local federal trapper.
Can't use the poison in your area too many dogs, but the trapper might have a box trap or even be able to set up some sort of trap to catch this coyote.

Warn your neighbors again about the coyote having mange because it can be transmitted to their dogs.

Hang snares then club him or shoot him. Sorry about your kitty I bet hes up there right now looking down on you and thanking you for trying to slay the evil animal that destroyed him. Good luck and hope your other cat stays safe!

DNR = Department of Natural Resources. OP - I would have reservations about shooting a .22 in town. I realize you'd be shooting in a wooded area, but those things will still travel if you miss your target. Although, you're probably a better shot than I am, so it may not be an issue. But still, accidents happen. I guess I'm just leery about anyone shooting firearms in town where something could go wrong. I'm not anti-gun or anti-getting rid of a mangy coyote and putting the thing out of its misery. Just anti-taking chances, I guess. I hope you can find a way to kill it humanely and safely.

but what's a DNR?

Department of Natural Resources

You could ask around for info on any crossbow hunters and see if you can persuade one to hunt your 'yote. Or, you could buy a crossbow and do it yourself. Might even be fun!

You may catch the coyote, but you also may catch someone's dog, or a deer, or any other animal that wanders by that way. What if a kid accidentally wandered and got caught? Snares and leg traps are NOT safe in a suburban area. Please try another solution.

Honestly, the only sure way to keep your cat safe, is to keep her inside. You may get rid of the 'offending' coyote, but if it's an environment that's attractive to coyotes (or foxes/ bobcats, etc) another one will be along to take it's place.

The first time I ever shot a gun I was 12 years old and my dad handed me a hunting rifle, he hid a pop can in the woods somewhere and told me to blow a hole thru it... I only saw the area he put the pop can not the actual can. I shot at the general location and nailed the pop can right thru the middle. I am a heck of a good shot! I do have reservations about shooting in this area because of the critters and children however the kids would be in bed by the time I went hunting and I would make darn sure the neighbors were aware of what was going to take place and be ok with me doing that seeing as the wooded area across the street is their land..... I thank you all for your responses and great ideas, I will try anything to avoid having to kill this thing myself without possible injuries to any other critter or human being but I stand by my decision if all else fails.

Dadsdeercamp thanks for the pellet gun idea, that was something dh and I had been thinking about to take care of the tree rats around here.

Redhen U crack me up woman! I can just hear the benny hill theme song playing as I try to wrangle a yote! LOL

ETA I have tried everything short of pounding it into the neighbors heads this thing is dangerous but you know the saying "ya can't fix stupid"....
