Any tips on how to kill a coyote in a residential neighborhood?

Use a 22 HP ammunition and go on the internet and download(You can find it for free) a cottontail rabbit distress call

That is illegal given the fact that it's in the city limits.

You can LEGALLY kill a predator attacking your animals, but CALLING them in is HUNTING

I am posting this with out reading all of the replies..... Hand load a .22 short or a subsonic 22lr and got get it. Or if your city allows go for a "walk" and open carry a pistol, then get menaced by the coyote and end it....

Then there is the bowl of anti-freeze<----this will kill any and all strays as well so think carefuly on that one. just my thoughts. After my predator attacks and lack of Game and fish help ALL predators are on the kill first list.

Since you can not poison it, I would find a local hunter to help you out, and see if you can find a bow hunter, I am sure they would be more than glad to come out and hunt your coyote, Bow hunting is quite and not as much distance then you would get with a crossbow.

If we lived closer my daughter would love to help you out, and she has 2 bows. We have coyote problems too and this time of year it is bad. They have not got to the front side of the farm as of yet where we all live but you can hear them and see them. Good luck.

Tell you the truth I'm kinda wondering if it even was the coyote that attacked the cats. Unless it's sick, or young and very inexperienced, they are generally very adept at killing cats and hauling them off. Usually the cat just disappear's. Anything's possible of course but it sounds more like dog attack to me.

Gotta agree. You usually just don't find kitty. And if you did, it wouldn't be so mangled. However, if you are certain its a coyote, and if you live ina "nice" area, try the media. They love stories about the big bad wolf and how the city won't do anything about it even after it kills poor widdle kitties. (Not mocking your cat, just putting it the way the media would)

I'm sorry about your cats, I know that had to be awful. It does sound like a dog toying with them though, not a hungry animal.

Actually I don't think it is illegal here, we live right across the street from a lake and in the early mornings you hear the hunters shooting at the geese on the lake and again just before the sun goes down. Bobbi-j You didn't offend me at all. I don't want to have to shoot anything if I don't need to. I thought dog too but nobody around here owns a vicious dog, in fact there have been several dogs in my yard WITH the chickens and nothing bothers them. I usually grab the dog by the collar and escort it home. My cats are quick and the one is a hell of a fighter however neither cats have front claws. It amazed the vet that the second cat who passed away from her injuries even made it back to my door. The area of the puncture wounds on the first cat were obtained when he tried to run away, from there the yote thrashed him around sooo hard he ripped a huge hole in the back of his leg and he came home with grass stains all over his head. I was told by the federal trappers that we have a real problem with coyotes here lately and that their top choice in food is cats. We also live on the border of carlos avery wildlife sanctuary so there are woods surrounding us here and tons of critters in those woods in fact a few years ago a 2 yr old cub was sighted in my front yard taking a dump while scratching his back on the pine tree not even 2 ft away from my birds yet didn't bat an eye at them. I know everyone in the area and their dogs. When my cats are outside they don't go far at all BUT they do go across the street in the woods which is where both attacks happened as well as the 3rd cat I had found. I can't be 100% sure it is the coyote but I am pretty confident. Some kitties around the area (3 to be exact) just up and disappeared, haven't been seen for weeks now. I think those ones didn't get away. I do think and from the looks of this thing it is sick. it looks pretty mangey. I am waiting on a call back from the city to see what I can do about this. That could take forever considering I called them a few years ago when they changed the ordinance in the area for poultry to obtain a permit to keep them and they still haven't called me back on that!

We have eagles, haws, owls and so on here, those have never gone after the cats only the birds. With this damage on the cats this was NOT a bird of prey that I am 100% certain of. I got a call back from the city, as I suspected they won't and don't do a darn thing about anything around here. They told me to call the DNR. I talked to the DNR yesterday and they won't do anything either, now if it was a wolf they would be out here like yesterday trapping it because they are protected here. City of east bethel told me there is NO ordinance against the killing of the coyote so open fire it is then! Done playing games and making phone calls only to be let down. I guess if you want something done you gotta do it yourself.... The neighbor just picked up a new bow and arrow, gonna see if he will let us borrow it. I just don't have $150 for a pellet gun right now

I feel your pain. I lost two cats to yotes coupla years back. Pretty much same situation. Yes there are laws and most are good but this is the one I take exception to. My first choice would be this. If you are a good shot and have no doubt you can take a good clean head shot with a 22 with a scope take the shot.( make dead sure of this with practice somewhere.) If you use a bow and arrow you have to be closer but doesnt make any noise but also takes more practice to shoot and knowing yardage for the shot. In other words its not near as easy as a rifle with a scope. Also like others have mentioned find someone who is willing and able to do this deed for you. sss works .
