Hey all, I was at the town recycling center and found some empty 55 gal food-grade plastic drums. They were giving them away, so I grabbed 3 and brought them home. Is there any way to tell what kind of material was stored in these drums and whether they would be safe to use as water storage for my chickens?

If there is a label, maybe. But it might have already been repurposed by someone. Proceed with caution.

Be cautious. Unless you know the chain of ownership/use of these drums, they shouldn’t be used for food/water for consumption.

find some other Non-food/water uses for them, Because they are handy to have. I’m sure repurposing ideas galore on sites like Pinterest.

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah, I figured I could always use them for landscaping irrigation if nothing else.
