Any writers out there????

I'm a writer, too. I've had articles published in Canticle Magazine (A Catholic women's magazine) and I wrote book reviews for Laywitness (also a Catholic magazine.)

I've googled some of my articles, but Canticle (now under a different publisher) no longer has them online!

There is one little article of the 3 I wrote. You have to scroll down, though, to "You are Beautiful My Beloved" on 'page 13'

I wrote another article for that magazine that makes me cry every time I read it - it is a tribute to my neighbor Angela and her mother. Angela died of ovarian cancer & I wrote about the loving care her mother gave her. I wish you could read it. I loved them and miss them both very much (Mary died two years after Ang did)

http://www.nfpandmore.org/sbuckreview.shtml This is one of my book reviews - it apparently made its way around the internet! I had no idea it was found on so many websites but here its not pdf as it is on the original magazine site.

I also write 'radio plays' for children (and yes, they were once played on the radio!):

http://www.holyheroes.com/Glory-Stories-s/2.htm

The two I wrote are St Katherine Drexel and St Joan of Arc. I also contributed to some of the Holy Heroes meditations. These are great fun to do! If you find the "about the people brining you Holy Heroes" on the left side of the page, you can see my most imperious face! (I sent the picture as a joke, with a 'real' picture, but they chose this one instead! Yeah, these guys are a lot of fun to work with...but notice none of them are sporting CROWNS....)

I have three more that are written and waiting production.

I've started a youth fantasy type book, have about 4 chapters done that I really love, but am a little stuck and am working out how I want to get to my story's end from this point. I know the beginning, I've got the perfect end - its just that dratted middle part that has me stuck!

"Hey JerseyGiant, what did you publish??? What got through the barn door? "

Hey Geri,

Sorry it took so long to post back, Christmas Holidays and all...

I'm publishing a novel called "Between Life and Death" - Fiction-Romance/Horror. About 850 pages at final edit. I never expected to get picked up so quickly. My first (I'm hoping for a long line) book to get published, so I'm in new territory. That's what "got through the barn door". If it's a winner, I have the sequel inside me...

Wish me luck and I'll keep ya posted as to progress!

I've got to check that out.

Without being totally obnoxious, I think women have the best and most interesting stories.

Woman write with insight in a way most men don't. There are exceptions of course. I would never say never...

But, I don't think I'm alone here in that when I'm out with my women friends, we have the best time joking and laughing in a way that is unique.

And, believe me, I adore my husband, Rick. I feel so blessed. He is my best friend and I'm crazy about him.

However, he does not replace my girlfriends which is a totally different kind of friendship. My girlfriends could never replace husband.

I'm lucky in that Rick is very supportive of me spending time with my friends. He knows it is important. I encorage him to spend time with his friends...I'm sure the time he is with his buddies is just as special.

But I'll bet you their conversations are not as interesting as ours!!

BTW--what is the other BYC site? Is that Yuku?

yes, Jajicka. It's the YUKU one.

I think we also have more interesting stories. We tend to write more from our emotions and guys seem to be technical. It's like reading a Tom Clancy and a Jude Devereaux.

I was writing the scene where my MMC dies and I couldn't stop crying...

Hi Everyone--

Been quiet out there.??? Everyone OK, or just writing like crazy.

OK---I'm going to be a little out of touch for about ten days.

My book just hit the book stores yesterday...or it was supposed to. I have not had the time to check.

Anyway, I look forward to catching up with everyone.

I'm playing with new ideas for my next book. Not that I have any notion it will get published, but what the heck. It can always be used for freelance, I hope.

I hope everyone is well. Miss our chats. Maybe we can all contribute to? Anyone have ideas for a collaborative effort?

So, fellow chicken lovers. I'll check back after the 20th...

All best.

Hi everyone! Wow how did I miss this thread??!!
I am a writer. Boy I love writing that. Could just write that all day long. Then my friends would say "how's the writing going?" and I would answer "Great - wrote 4 thousand words today - well only 4 different ones but hey!"

I have written one novel which is roaming the world looking for a home. I have two novels in progress - one is at about 200 page and the other at 160. The smaller one is a mystery set in Peggy's Cove. My first one "Feckless" is set in Nova Scotia, Calgary, Cuba and Ireland. Fun to write about like visiting those places again and again. The main one I'm working on now "True" is set a bit in Nova Scotia, a bit in Nelson, BC and a lot in Stand Off, Alberta. That is hard because although I was born in Alberta I haven't spent that much time there. So, I need some $ so I can do a field trip.

I have written quite a few plays - four of which have been produced - two in professional theatres. I have also written familiar essays and poems that have been published.

Unlike some of you though I find it REALLY tough. I have to really get over my procrastination - like being on BYC or my day job as a therapist. YIKES. The words do not flow - they stumble and wander around half-drunk until I can get them to calm down and do what I want. They are like my dog - they run away, they don't want to sit around and entertain me. Or like my chickens, hiding under the coop when the hawk comes by. Or like my step-kids when dishes need to be done.

So my fellow writers I will go now and not stop writing until I have 1 thousand fresh and wonderful words on my novel.

Yahooey! One thousand and five! Now I'll walk the dog and then it is off to the city to hang out with some buds of mine. Ron can feed the kids or not - it's friday they can figure it out. I made brownies and someone will have a soup and yummy. I love eating.

so - Jajika - congratulations and I know you're on a forum sabatical but I look forward to finding your book!

Hi there Newbie:

Welcome, welcome, welcome...

You are a very accomplished writer. And, as a therapist, you have wonderful insight to character building the rest of us -- or me-- could never describe. Unfair!!!

I would love to know more about your work, or find it somewhere?

I have suggested that we all get E-mails, or build our own site. There are several online writers groups that do critique.

I have been in many. As long as people abide by construction and supportive criticism, it works nicely. Everyone has to read and sign-off on the "rules."

Just a thought.

I have never heard the term "forum sabbatical?"

All I know is that I'm on a multi-state book tour and I'm exhausted.

I expect to be home Jan. 20, then I have three more readings in San Francisco...I'm getting sick of my book.

Ever happen to you?

Hi Jajika - thanks for your welcome...I looked up your site and am really looking forward to reading your book - such an interesting idea and the tickler on your site was great.

hmmm...sick of my book? Well, I don't have any books published so we'll see. Mounting a production of a play is such an intense and collaborative process that it's more like I get tired of playing nice and want to tell everyone to jump in the lake. But usually I avoid actually saying it.

I'm slightly tired of my first novel because I feel like the only way I could learn to write a novel was to write one and I hope I didn't waste a good story with bad technique but those are the four in the morning screaming mimi thoughts.

Today I got a new camera - a digital slr and I cannot wait to get out with it. It is cursedly cold here in Nova Scotia so I might be forced to take pics of the dog, the man and the teens.

I didn't write today but probably will tomorrow and make up for it - just a play day...

I wouldn't mind being part of a writing forum but only if it were kept a reasonable size I guess. This much on BYC works for me. I belonged to one many years ago and it did get me writing on my 1st novel but I did get a little weary with how tender everyone seemed to be. yikes.

You can probably still find a version of our site "Death, the Musical, Kaereoke at the Afterlife Bar & Grill" on google or on facebook. Other than that you might be able to dig up a review of "Fields of Crimson" or "Shroom, the last musical".

talk to you soon - and have as much enjoyment as possible on your book tour! Perhaps you'll find a story or two out there...

jan

ps - forum sabatical must be a term I made up.
