Anybody else stalking their chickens for first eggs?

22 weeks. Anxiously waiting over here! Question about the squatting. Is it that hens will squat just if you stand next to them, or is it if you put your hand on their back that they're supposed to do it?

It is supposed to be that they squat if you put your hand on their back, but sometimes they squat when your next to them.

Ok, so here’s our Zoe-bird. She’s by far got the reddest and largest comb and waddle. She also is still skittish and won’t have any touching of her back. But she’s also be very vocal lately. Not sure quite how to describe it, but they’re like these sustained grunts and she revs them up for a few seconds.

And then here’s Francis aka Franny. She’s the largest girl and appears to be the leader/dominant one in terms of personality as well. She does a semi-squat, but still scoots out from under your hand. Combs and waddle not nearly as big and red.

And finally, here’s Rosie. Middle of the road with comb size and redness, but skittish like Zooey.

This evening DH was like when are they going to lay? Didn’t you say like 20 weeks. Er, that’s the big question right?!
