Here's my top 3 contenders...
Splash Marans, Buff orpington and Welsummer. Theyre all 18 weeks tomorrow so I know I might still be waiting for a bit, but I am getting antsy waiting!
Come join me as I obsess over watching for my first egg! Let's see your contenders!

I've 3 Speckled Sussex bantam pullets (5 months) and 4 Dominique bantam pullets (4 months) and I've been on egg watch for about a month. The Sussex all have bright red big girl combs, they're just about ready.

I think your Maran will be the first to lay an egg.
She is the most perfect chicken ever so I wouldn't doubt it! I feel like she's been antsy today and I just can stay out of the coop waiting for something!

I love your sussexes! I was supposed to have one but it ended being a welsummer roo and he had to go. Too bad :(

My BO squatted this am!
I have a rooster so I wasn't sure how this was going to be working to give me hints or not and my Marans has always squatted at my feet, but she might just be taking in the pets. This was a legit, wings out, tail up full on squat.

I have 2 RIR one is mixed with Speckled Sussex and an olive egger I'm waiting to lay their first any day now! They're 20 weeks! My aunt said sometimes they'll wait for the weather to get cooler before their first egg. Thoughts?

My cockerel doesn't care yet LOL. I walked in right as she laid it though and then she laid down. I wasn't sure if she was going to get off of it.
