Anybody hatching around March 7th? PICS page 9,18

Well...here they are just about 1 day old....

I think mine are winding things up. I've lost count, but there are twenty-something. I just had to help a huge chick out of an Orpington egg--it's a Marans/Orp cross, and it just couldn't get out. Had the egg completely zipped, and was totally dry in the middle. Its little head was tucked between its legs, so that it was all wadded up...it took an hour or so before that chick could "uncurl!"

I'll be taking pictures as soon as the last couple are dry.

My babies are all out. I have 9 out of 10 hatched, one died in the shell.

Here is baby #1's head coming out of the shell:

Here are a few of the babies, in all their fluffy glory:

This is so much fun! Your chicks are adorable!

I now have 8 chicks - 2 more hatched last night.

Both of my Frizzle-mix chicks have hatched... and one is a silver color, the other is yellow! It will be interesting to see what they end up looking like. I can't tell yet if they'll have the frizzle feathers.

I've now got 6 EE chicks - yay!

One more EE pipped this morning, after 4am (don't ask me how I know - yawn!)

So, I'm waiting on 3 other EEs and the Polish... whew!

Last night at about 6pm started Day 22.

I have to say, I think I've become a fan of the egg carton method of hatching.

I started with 35 eggs. One chick died yesterday shortly after pipping.

32 chicks are out and doing well (but one that got too dry and needed some help is a little weak), and the two remaining eggs are making noise. I'm on day 22 right now.

I don't think I've ever had a hatch this good.

Wow! That's almost a perfect hatch....Congratulations? What type of incubator do you have; it also helps that they are not shipped. They are just adorable; now what are you going to do with them all???

Thankya. I have a Hovabator Genesis with the auto-turner.

These guys will all join the big flock in a couple of months, and I'll start making dinner out of some of the older ones. We'll also eat most of the roosters out of this batch once they start fighting.

Less than 2 years ago, we got our first chickens ever, a dozen chicks from Meyer Hatchery. This batch puts us at about 110 chickens, with 42 new eggs going into the 'bator on Tuesday or Wednesday.

It's like a sickness.

Congratulations Fredster! That is an amazing hatch!
I just got my new Genesis started and have eggs in it now that are due to hatch this weekend. I don't have the turner but I already love this bator!! Pretty much worry free.

They're all mutts. Ten came from our flock of heavy breeds and crosses, 6 or 7 came from the guy who owns the feed store and are the result of a buff orpington roo and gold-laced wyandotte hens, and all the others came from Amish people. One batch of the Amish chickens looked like golden comet hens and a RIR roo, and the other batch looked like golden comet hens and maybe white leghorn roos.

We've never had this many chicks at once, and never all so light colored. We've only got two black ones.
