the grocery sack idea is great -- it really keeps the crust from burning.

I sometimes cook my Thanksgiving turkey the same way.

Crunchy caramel apple pie

I do make this in my Pampered Chef pie plate, you need something really deep dish.

Pastry for single crust pie

8 cups apples, peeled, cored and sliced, drizzled with 2 t. lemon juice, mixed with
3 T. Flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 t. Cinnamon
1/8 t. salt
pour into prepared pie crust. Top with...

1/2 cup melted butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup quick oatmeal
stir together till mixed, and place over apples

Bake on baking sheet at 450* for 15 minutes -reduce heat to 350* and bake for 45 minutes- remove from oven. Sprinkle with1/2 cup chopped pecans drizzle with 1/2-3/4 cup of Caramel ice cream topping..

In my pie plate it usually comes out to about 10 good sized apples. More is better, I really mound it up..(I have also been known to make a bit more topping so it all gets really crunchy on the top)
