i not just having a hard time selling chicks , but my incubator too.

It must be about location, as I just discovered that the store from which I was going to get chicks is sold out for the first part of April. If I can't find what I want somewhere else, I'll have to wait until June, as I want to be sure I've got a four-week window where I don't have to leave the babies.
If anyone knows a way I can get 1 Americauna, 1 Buff Orpington, 1 Brahma or Cochin, a Silkie and a Salmon Faverelle, day-old chicks, (no roosters - we have fussy neighbors
) before April 10 in southern CA, let me know!

It is "Ideal Hatchery" BUT, they have a ton of charges for small orders! You are better off waiting until your brooder is empty in a month or two and ordering a 25 pack and selling the surplus on Craigs list Farm and Garden for a reasonable rate, just slightly higher than what you paid for bird, shipping and handling. Likle round it off then add a buck or so.

Yeah. I pretty much told them what you say. I don't want to order 25. I only wanted a few of breeds I don't have. I am hoping to sale my chicks and find birds I want at the swap coming up on Sunday here.

We have a ten-day trip in May and I read somewhere that for best bonding you shouldn't be away for even a day the first month. Also, not sure it's fair to saddle my friend who's going to house-sit for us with chick duty.
The Faverolles were in the order that's sold out. I'm going to go back to the store and see what they're listing for their June orders...
