I've seen it too in the past and there's no way back if you fall down there.

I sense your pain. It's galling after the effort that you are making. Accept your unemployment benefit as something you've earned and are entitled too. Enjoy your time at home. It's grounding for you and may be all too short.

I wish you well.

Sometimes it helps to look at things like this as not the end of the road but a bend. Your just changing directions. I am sure we all have some hard luck stories and to many want to get on a political soap box. Please do not rant about you politics. Just answer this one question.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT? HOW ARE YOU GOING TO COPE OR HELP OTHERS TO COPE? Me I knit squares for the sick at church, I give eggs to those who are unemployed and sell eggs to give to an orphanage in India.

We all have our OP's about what the problem is and how it got here. Just ask yourself what can you do to help. Otherwise please take it somewhere else. If you have to assume anything then assume those in tight spots are doing the best they can, just like you!

Lord have mercy!

I totally agree. Well said.

Irritates me when I see these "baby mama's" (with about 5 kids) in line at Wal Mart with 2 baskets full of food (steak, seafood, soda, Little Debbie cakes, etc) and they have just gotten a $40.00 manicure and a $50.00 pedicure and a beauty shop hair do that is about $80.00 and they are dressed to the 9's and they pull out that food stamp card. I blow up. Then they go to the parking lot and get in a Cadillac Escalade. While I'm in line with about 10 items and all of them are generic/off brand.

Not to mention that these food stamp cards allow you to get CASH back! CASH BACK !!??? WHAT?? I personally witnessed one girl get $40.00 cash back so that she could go to the night club with her boyfriend. She actually said that is where they were going. She said that they could get in with the extra cash from the food stamp care. Well before getting the cash back, she purchased 2 bags of skittles with her food stamp card.

Now, I do know that some people really need food stamps/welfare and they do not abuse that privilege. I wish things were better for those families. But for those that abuse this, then ........

Ok, I just had to get that off of my chest. Sorry that I went off topic.

Well I wish everyone that is unemployed the best. I think they'll eventually extend the benefits. The one side is just grandstanding right now. When they get the reins next year they will agree to extend unemployment if they get some concession out of it. They can't come across as having black rocks in place of a heart. Most people wont support that. Hopefully not too many people will lose their houses or a place to live while they are playing their games.

I think a lot of people will be starting over again. It's amazing how fast the ship started sinking once it exceeded it's capacity. The jobs are gone. They all went elsewhere and it doesn't look like they will be coming back. It has been a real snowball and like ON said it's getting bigger and rolling faster.

If they continue to deny benefits over 26 weeks then there will be bread lines. It will look just like all the pictures we have all seen. Only difference is the types of clothes people will be wearing. I feel especially bad for those with kids. It's one thing to have to worry about where your own next meal is coming from or where you're going to sleep. Can't imagine what it would be like with kids to worry about too. I'm seriously considering looking for an old school bus that runs. At least it would keep the wind out and be a dry place to sleep if things get real bad.

Good luck all.

This is not political just OUR fact of OUR family.

My DH works in the oil feild, when the election of Nov 2008 happened we knew it was going to be bad. MY DH was a Rig Mgr for a company for 10 years. He never missed a days work, had the show rig for the the company. And after the election the rigs hit the ground. No job, no insurance, no unemployment benefits.

We sold almost everything we owned. My DH worked everyday, but I cost a bunch every month in medical alone.

We sold our tractor, stock trailer, bass boat, my 4x4 truck, my cattle, most of my goats, chickens. And anything else that wasn't nailed down.

But after 2 years I am pleased to report he is with a new company and he just got promoted last month to Rig Mgr and we can see light at the end of the tunnel.
Just hang in there, keep your head up, you can make it.

I live in one of the poorest states. Our unemployment is around 10%. I am a nurse but I stay at since I had my child. When I did work I worked in family clinics and one of those happened to be a low income, rural clinic. EVERYDAY we had people with several kids by several men who came in with their child because they coughed or sneezed. Are you kidding me?!?! You sit at home on your lazy tail collecting every government assistance available and you came in because your child coughed? Medicaid covers all their kids expenses so they get to see the doctor for free and they don't mind using it. They know how to work the system because that's how they were raised. I wish the government would rework this system to make this scenario a less occuring story. Our family was hit with a layoff last year and we went from making $3400 to $800 a month on unemployment. It sucked but we did what we could to make the bills. We were fortunate that my husband was only out of work for 3 months but you better believe that I was NOT ashamed to go collect whatever assistance I could for my family, because we pay enough taxes to feed all the useless people that work the system.

I honestly don't know how those who lost benefits are going to do it.

However, I was thinking. I know I can hurt myself that way but here were my thoughts.

The US has shipped all the jobs to China, right. Well, if N. Korea goes after S. Korea then China will more than likely back N. Korea. This would cause the US to get their undies in a bunch and the US citizens will have renewed interest in buying MADE IN USA right. More jobs.
Now I am not saying we need any more wars but IF it did happen.... Granted I am just a peon with an idea who has no political agenda what so ever, just trying to see the positive in horrible situations.

Yes, welfare isn't going to pay a mortgage... they rather I lose my home first. Which is ridiculous, my mortgage w/ taxes insurance and everything is less then $800. I couldn't get an apartment in town for that!

My husband is off 'working' and negotiating pay at a lousy job. He said if they can't do better then $10 an hour, and he can't find a weekend or part time job he can't take it. We just can't. They job is not guarenteed 40 hours a week... or that he will even have the position still needing anyone in January. So whats the point?

Right now employers are taking advantage... have you seen the craigslist listings? And this is ok with people???

I read one my husband laughed at not long ago.

"I decided to go into business for myself, I need someone who can run a home improvement business. You need to be licensed, do carpentry, plumbing & electrical. You need to know about permits & go about taking care of that for me. You need to make sales, work with customers & keep the job sites clean. You will be responsible for the work to be done for the customers... we can not subcontract out these jobs yet, maybe in a year if we grow. Please understand Microsoft Office suite and Quicken is a plus. I can't pay much to start, but there is potential. Will require 40+ hour weeks, no over time this is salary pay $550 a week."

Really? Are you kidding me? Its become I will hire you if you do all the work, and take a pay cut. No one is inforcing the laws that make it where my husband could work 1099. He's insured, and that costs us money.. now they are hiring people with no insurance to work on your home at horrible prices. Its the homeowner who ends up paying the price to contactor who is ripping off his employees. Know that before you hire someone to do work in your home. You are paying a fabulous price for the new kitchen re-do huh? Well the guys doing the work are making junk for money, and they work like they get paid... poorly!

I am sure not everyone is doing this, but it really does go beyond the job. If they just contracted these positions for the work only, they would still save money... because when the job was done, the employee woulld be done, but they would have been well paid and they would love to come back and work for you again if you called. That is a better situation... but they are trying to milk this economy for every extra $1 they can pocket themselves.

There's no chance of such a war. The military exercises passed off without incident, North Korea knows it had its last chance and China has other things to do than fight for a dying tyrant. Look what was really going on while our attention was diverted to Korea.

As for 'Made At Home', those days ended when we all started to by Asian built cars. Even before then 'Made In Hong Kong' shoddy goods were laughed at in the UK but still bought. Westerners will need to buy as cheaply as possible during the next few years. If Western wages get down to Asian levels so that home produced goods are affordable, you will have problems that you never thought possible. The people out here who make your designer clothes are paid the equivalent of $5 to $10 per day or less and could never afford to buy what they make, even at local prices.

Oh, I haven't been distracted.

Unfortunatly it seems like the whole system is like an alcoholic. It is gonna have to hit rock bottom before it gets better. I honestly think we haven't seen the worst.
