Anybody making "burrito" pillowcases?

I am going to try this method. My friend's daughter is expecting her 3rd son this summer. I plan to make a novelty "little baseball" pillowcase since this 6 year old is in T-ball. I have a pretty novelty print from Hancock's remnant table for the 2 year old. For the newborn baby I will make a small wall hanging using the fabric from both novelty prints.

I learned to make French seams years ago but I now have a serger. I haven't figured out how to attach the top piece, the hem fabric, yet. I have googled instructions though.

Do any of you have tips, do you prefer French seams or serged seams? (I am fussy about the underside too) If this works out, I would like to donate pillowcases to a charity that gives pillowcases to sick hospital children. www.AllPeopleQuilt.com/millionpillowcases.

I have been making these since I was 12 and bored one summer. I took old sheets & turned them into body-pillow covers.

Keep in mind ladies, I DON'T sew. So I can't help you with any stitching questions--just me, a needle, and bloody fingers

Terrie, this pillowcase technique is so cool. Mine turned out beautifully. One question though. My novelty fabric is directional so I didn't know which way to point it. It has children playing with wagons, tricycles, etc. Would you point the Childrens' heads up by the cuff and feet at the bottom of the pillowcase or the other way? I've looked on the websites and all the print fabric that I've seen is random--no direction needed. It's probably not a big deal except I'm fussy when I give a gift.
