anybody raise sprouts to feed the chickens?

Yes you definately can sprout the bird seed, if it is old you may not get as many to sprout, but your girls will love it anyway.

I have some fabric sacks, I'll try it with two of them and see if I get anything.

Sometimes commercial seeds meant for eating(even if it is meant for birds) are sprayed with an anti-sprout substance. Rinse them really well first and give it a try. I would!

We sprout just for our family, but am starting some for laying hens.

Will it be alright to feed them sprouted mung beans? Also, could I use Amaranth seeds next year if harvest is large enough?

Where can I buy sprouting seeds in bulk? I have ordered them where I order my organic, Non-GMO vegetable seeds. But that is way to pricey. Would look at wheatgrass, red clover, etc.
Thanks

I can get a 50 lb bag of corn, or wheat, or oats for about $10 at the feed store they all sprout well. I can get a 50 lb bag of boss for around $20 it sprouts well, and if you want field peas or something like that it is about $35. I usually sprout the grain products or the boss just b/c of the price.

I get something known as plot spike. I get the oat one. It is more expensive than feed in the store because it is non gmo, or at least the bag I got last year was.

I like the idea of sprouting grains. I plant wheat berries in a raised bed which I allow my girls to forage in. Trouble is, they pull the roots out and decimate the bed in one feeding. I'm experimenting with putting small-holed chicken wire down flat on the bed. That way the grain grass grows through.

But I'm wondering how to present jar-grown sprouts to the chickens? Do you put them in a bowl or feeder? Are they able to eat them that way? When I give them greens I put it in an upside down flower pot, stuffing the stems in the hole so the chooks can grasp the greens.
