anybody raise sprouts to feed the chickens?

I just started sprouting Lentils. The hens went crazy for the first batch yesterday. Today is day 2 on the 2nd batch. I'm going to try different beans but lentils are inexpensive, healthy and quick to sprout so it was my first batch.

Evidently chickens LOVE sprouted peas--either snap or standard (shell). Wanna know how I found out? Something to do w/ planting peas before completely fencing the garden! I caught them out there about a week after planting--one hen on each side of the string marking the row--just scratching their way along collecting those fat little peas w/ their new roots. '

' I had 3 (THREE) peas come up in two 30' rows! '

' Good thing the seeds weren't treated, but I know what I'm doing w/ all the the overgrown peas at the end of the season! Lessons learned--fence the garden completely before planting if your chickies free-range & evidently pea sprouts are one of their favorites!

Are you doing the Kefir culturing? If not, check out the PROBIOTICS thread and come on over to the Kefir Krazies club! It's Wonderful!

What is the Kefir Krazies club and how can i get involved?!?!?!?

If anyone needs Kefir grains just let me know, I will be happy to send them to you for the price of package and postage. I have enough for 3, maybe 4 people right now.

That's funny. I let my chickens free range for the first time on Wednesday. When I came home from work tonight I thought that they would like to run around the yard a bit. The first thing that they did was run to the garden and started scratching and pecking! My first thought was....this year I gotta fence in the garden.........

Hoover feed mill here in Goshen, IN mixes up their own layer mash for just a little under $10/ 50 lbs. It also happens to be right down the block from our favorite breakfast spot, so we usually don't even spend money on gas to pick it up. Just grab it while we are there anyway!
