I just say yes dear, oh how awful dear. He wouldn't have lasted a month in the mountains of NC.

LOL....it really was awful though!!!! I lived in Alaska for 4 1/2 years and NOTHING there was half as bad as that ice storm!!!! We actually tried to stay warm with Sterno until we could get out.

I remember it well. gapeach. Was living in Brunswick, Ga. at the time and we got 8 inches. The kids loved it, but couldn't let them out to play in it for too long cause we just didn't have the right gear for it. DH and the kids did build a snowman, and just as I was about to take a pic, our Cocker Spaniel, D.J., ran up to it, lifted his leg, pee'd on it and "BAM" down it went. We lost power and heat for two days, but we had our fireplace for warmth and cooking. We all pulled out our sleeping bags and slept in the front room. We had a blast, and alot of cool family memories to share.

We haven't seen that much snow on the Ga. coast since. Would love to see some more! It was beautiful!

Yeah, I remember that one. I was just out of college at the time--we still call it the Spring Break Storm. My hubby was driving a 15 passenger van from Auburn to NC that weekend. What a mess.

The Dec. 2000 ice storm was awful. We lay in bed that night listening to trees break and transformers blow and that storm did more damage to our trees than Hurricane Fran. We were without power for three days--we were very glad we had bought a generator. When you're out in the country on a well, no power means no water.

Sure would like to see a decent snow this year though. One good one--enough for everybody to have a couple of days of sledding.

OH yes I remember that storm. I was working for an emergency response department, (911) and the calls kept coming in reporting "shots fired" it was of course, trees breaking, but if the caller said "shots fired" it had to go to the dispatcher as that. and it demanded an immediate response from the police. Imagine 10 thousand "shots fired".
My car froze in the parking lot under a foot of ice. Could not open its door for 2 weeks.
No electricity for two weeks. Lucky we had a gas heater that heated our home and my son riggged up a car battery to a television and so we could watch tv for a few minutes at a time to get the news.
I had a police car take me back and forth to work and that was good but he had so many it took hours to get there and hours back.
DH and i went driving when we could and make movies of the mess. all the big trees were on top of houses and on the ground. it was a mess.
my property was by a large treed area of 17 acres. the trees breaking and falling was just like a war zone.
I dont remember any snow. just ice and much of it. horrible.
we could heat water for coffee on the gas stove and cook soup and such so we were in good shape. actually it was fun. i was much younger then and do not want to do it again.
I have a tee shirt that says I survived the ice storm of 1994.

I remember a snow storm when I lived outside of Chattanooga- Im sure the year wasn't 1993, because that is the year my son was born-so it was a different storm...however, I had, at one time owned a t-shirt from that year that they got 12 inches of snow.I think it said "I survived the blizzard of 88". I remember I went to work- Pizza Hut-and they were closed. McDonalds was also closed...the whole town was closed. I was in awe- here in Michigan, that would never had shut the world down. I remember telling my boyfriend, "Its no big deal- when the salt trucks come, it will melt away." And he said, "Whats a salt truck?" heh heh heh.

I got my little Omni stuck in the snow when I tried to go to work. i was stuck stuck stuck...no cars in sight on the roads. Apparently, I was the only fool who tried to drive. Might as well have put a neon sign on the car that said, "YANKEE". I had to drudge through miles of snow to get home. Way before cell phones, and even if I would have had one- nobody I knew would have left their houses to rescue me.
