And the fact that you adapted H2StHG to your own needs pleases me.
*looks around contentedly* I like this place.

All in all, we had 10 eggs that made it to lockdown. There was a starting total of 18 eggs, but we had to remove 3 with blood rings on day 12. So out of the the final 10, we ended up with five healthy chicks: 2 blue Andalusians, 1 splash Andalusian, 1 dark blue Orpington, and 1 spalsh Orpington.

The last chick from the big Orp egg completed hatching out this morning, and is already in the brooder with the other chicks. It's doing great! It's very dark-colored. I'd almost be tempted to call it black, except that's impossible since the rooster is splash. It MUST be a very dark blue, but it's hard to tell under the red brooder light. Tomorrow, I'll take it outside for a few minutes so I can get a good picture under natural sunlight.

I giggled a lot, then went to Yahoogroups and put in "sizzles" under search for group... and I got 670 matches, went through 4 pages and none of them say "sizzles", they are all "sizzling" this and that!''

I have a bunch of d'uccles eggs, some from Camelot Farms (mille fleur), some from 1234muki off ebay (black mottled, porcelain, mille fleur). I had some blue mottleds as well, but they both quit

Oh well, I guess I'm not meant to have blue mottled, only black mottled and blue, and none in the same breed!

Hang in there, continue the quest.

JE, what *is* a splash? I take it that genetically it can't be a black and a splash at the same time, but it can be a blue. What other colors can & can't a splash be?

3Chickens those olive eggers are cute! After our first hatch (all blue and green eggs) I pointed out the "chipmunks" to my dds. They then decided that the black and white ones like yours must be "penguins." I look forward to seeing the BCM chick pics. Good luck on the rest of your hatch!

Sorry about your blue mottled eggs, Shelley. Hope the rest hatch well.
faerielady, that's a lot of hits for the word sizzles/sizzling!

Glad you were able to find the group!

Andalusian blue - produces the color group blue/black/splash they are inter-related colors.

A splash is usually black/grey spots on a silver or whitish bird.

There are however - blue splashes and the darker color is usually a darker blue, sometimes black. With some gene combos there are other splashes but the simple form is a light silver/gray/whitish bird with black flecks in an uneven pattern.

When you breed the base group blue/black/splash together you get different numbers of the different colors.

Blue to black - yields blues or blacks
Blue to blue - can yield the whole lot blue, black or splash chicks.
Splash to blue (may get this wrong) yields all blue.
And Splash to Splash yields all splash.

Probably got at least some of that wrong but you get the idea. It's late... LOL.

I prefer the most variation so like blue to blue breedings, then I get all three colors possible.

I have bbs Sizzles and bbs Rocks. Eventually I plan on committing all the blue gene information to brain cells that don't die over night but it hasn't happened yet.

Well *I* thought you explained it well.

I've got the barest of handles on cat coat genetics and get how blue can be related to black (in cats blue is dilute black).

So splash isn't just a color, it's the pattern of the darker color over a *very* dilute (to white) base?

(And while not really a merle or brindle, splash is still a random pattern as opposed to lacing?)

Okay, I'll stop asking questions ...tonight.
Sweet dreams, all!
